Description
patch notes*Same tutorial, updated for windows 10 since nobody is stuck on 7 anymore.
*It also looks much nicer now, woot woot!
*Smaller and easier to load, just as helpful.
Benefits to this method versus restarting your computer:
-Restarting your computer too often is not good for it!
-When you have a good idea, get to drawing it faster!
-Works on virtually every brand of WACOM drawing tablets.
Warning: This will result in the loss of any pen pressure settings and preferences you have set.
▹ If you like this tutorial, consider checking out my gallery, and maybe you'll like what you see! It will give me motivation to continue drawing and making some more helpful resources such as this one! ◃ <

Ah yes! If you're using windows, you definitely want to go into your wacom tablet properties, go into the mapping tab in there
first you want to go to the bottom left corner and make sure that "use windows ink" is unchecked. we don't want that
I'm not at my computer at the moment, but somewhere in your settings there will probably be an option for shortcuts and or pen commands, there will be one that has to do something along the lines of what it does when you click+hold your tablet pen in one spot. sometimes this turns into a bug and the reason your line starts later is because it's trying to open up a menu instead of drawing a line
just know that if you ever do reset your settings or even restart your computer (i think) you will have to turn windows ink off again.

Does it lag outside of your program? And which programs are you using/do they lag in?
With some older tablets (and the much newer ones) there can be compatibility issues with certain programs that can cause this.

Hello nautcious
Can you please help me sort out an issue with my tablet?
I'm using Wacom Intuos (Photo/Small) on windows 10... Photoshop CS6 and am experiencing severe brush lag. I tried your method but it still does not work. I was hunting through the forums and I found an answer which says:
~Win+R --> services.msc
~Restart 'Wacom Professional Services'
Upon which the lagging stops but pressure sensitivity is completely lost until I restart my laptop. And when I get back pen pressure, brush lag is back.
Also tried to bypass the windows ink by adding the PSUserConfig.txt file but still not working.

Hi there sbasubal! That's definitely a weird problem to have, and I believe (at least according to some of my friends with the same issue in the past) is that this is a common problem between the compatibility of the drawing tablet and the older version of photoshop.
In order to troubleshoot this, are you able to check if the tablet works in any other programs? Some free ones you can test out on are medibang or firealpaca, but also demos of any other program as well.

AAH thank you! i know others have already said thank you but honestly i couldn't figure out how to fix my pen's sensitivity settings, i tried removing the pressure completely but no ,matter what i did the pressure was extremely sensitive and would double-click on almost everything! I don't know what i would've done without this!

My Wacom intuos is new. I have updated the drivers. I have tried the method above and also tried to bypass the windows ink by adding the PSUserConfig.txt file. still no progress. I cant get the pressure to work in photoshop as windows ink is interfering with the configuration of my stylus pen. the pen only seems to work when carrying out horizontal strokes. but when trying to carry out vertical strokes the action is intercepted by panning up and down my page instead of drawing. Can anyone help fix this headache of a problem?

nautcious In reply to GVRC [2018-04-19 16:38:23 +0000 UTC]
oof that is definitely a doozy. If the computer that you're using this with has a touch screen, I would definitely see about turning some sort of quick commands/gestures off for the touch screen aspect of it, I wish I could tell you how/if you even can but I've never owned one myself. If that is the case, it almost sounds like your computer is confusing your tablet for just a regular touch screen and wants to use those actions with it.
Another thing is, there should be a little switch on the side of your tablet somewhere, it differs per model. Have that set to pen only, rather than pen and touch. The actual wacom settings have those same features as I said above but just for the touch aspect which is completely optional. Should look like this when you have it turned on:
And when it's all turned off, you should see "touch off" appear on your screen, and all of those settings should be grayed out like so:
Let me know if any of these work, if they don't, I'll dig deeper and see what I can do!
if they don't work it would be helpful if you could provide your:
operating system, tablet model/year
so I can continue to help you further.

does your pressure just not work in certain programs or is it every single program?
and i'm assuming you've already updated your tablet drivers etc.

Ah man I've had to fix this error before but I truly don't remember how I ended up fixing it... I'm assuming you've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and wacom software?
if you have, I /think/ this is the guide I used (www.reddit.com/r/wacom/comment… )
"You need the 'Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows' from Microsoft.
You can either run Windows Update and make sure all updates are installed successfully, or install KB2999226 from Microsoft by going here: support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb…"

THANK YOU FOR THIS!
I never had major issues with pen pressure stopping, for the longest time whenever it happened I could just open up ms paint and scribble around in it for a sec which would get the pen pressure working in SAI again. But then I installed an updated driver back in December and ever since my driver would just randomly crash and the only way I could figure out how to fix it was completely reinstalling the driver and restarting. Even normal restarts wouldn't fix it, I HAD to reinstall before restarting!
Which, on my potato of a laptop was pretty time consuming. Especially if it happened to force an update upon restarting @__@
But this method has saved me from having to do that anymore, which is so great. All I gotta do now is do this and re-adjust my settings back to what's comfortable, which is MUCH quicker haha. Thank you again for having this available!

hey! sorry it took me so long to reply,
I'm so glad I could help you out! it really is such a tedious problem to deal with ;;
I think there's even a way in the wacom menus, at least in the new ones that you can back up your settings and reapply them if that might make the process even quicker for you— I'm just not sure if that would result in the same issue coming back if the same settings are reapplied. I don't personally change my settings much at all, but if you'd like to give it a shot and get back to me, it would be a really helpful piece of knowledge that I can use to help even more!

Hi! Sorry this took so long to test, I honestly hadn't had any issues with pen pressure for a while haha.
It did happen again the other day so I tested it out and unfortunately applying the backed up settings just ended up breaking the pen pressure again instead, so I just had to follow the method as normal and readjust the settings manually anyway.
Maybe it would work for other people but in my case it seems backing up settings doesn't work out. Hope that helps!
