Description I finally finished this one.  This is the Tamiya 1/32 F4U-1A Corsair, with a Pappy Boyington figure in the cockpit.  I decided to build this as in inflight version, and it saves a lot of time in not having to do wheel bays or landing gear!

This was a rather frustrating build for me.  A lot of things went wrong.  The wings didn't fit on the spar, and the first one I put on got stuck.  When  pulling it off, a bunch of other things fell off that I didn't want to fall off.  The the engine cowls, which you can leave off to show off the engine, had huge gaps once you put them on.  I had to take off the engine and shave off the part that mounts on the firewall.  The fuselage has Montex masks for the stars and bars and the 883, but there was too much leakage on the wings, so I went with the decals for the wings.  Weathering is mostly oil paints.  I used white oil paint to represent all the coral dust/sand that built up into these island based corsairs, and the paint colors are significantly lightened to represent the sun fading.  Paint was mostly enamel, which went down well.

This is the fifth corsair I've built.  I've got one in the stash, and another one on order.  I really am a big corsair fan!

Man, I love it! A+ in my book although I was hoping you would do the fold up wings with landing gears down.

Thank you much!  It did save a lot of time though to build it wheels up and wings down !

Awesome paint job! I purchased oil paints but have not experimented with them yet. I love the results!

Thank you!  Oil paints are very easy to work with, and remove mistakes/excesses as well!

Thanks.  The white oil paint for weathering was an experiment that turned out well!

It's the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine, you can't help but love it

I do hate kits that just don't fit right.

I'm pretty sure it was my fault on the fit issues.  Tamiya built this one pretty precise, pre-painting and misalignment were likely my foils.

And your right, the R-2800 is an awesome engine!
