It didn't, this is from an *alternate* history where the remains of the British Empire went to communism ^ ^

I really like this flag. Simple yet... so overwhelming.
Really good!

Thanks I started by taking the Commonwealth flag and colouring the blue to red - it was then I realised how Communist that made it, and added the star and H&S, heh

A communist commonwealth? That's like a gun that shoots a healing salve, or a car that is bolted to the flow.
Cool flag though.

"Commonwealth is a traditional English term for a political community founded for the common good or in which all participants have equal standing. It has historically sometimes been synonymous with "republic"."
And thanks, lol

Nice, I take it China has a much more fledged naval history and tradition than in our own time?

Well not by much really, before the Second Great War all they have are the old ships from the 4 regional fleets, until the USA turned over the ships it built for the ROC, and Imperial China only got modern ships after the Japanese handed them over so they could take over the German Lease of Qingdao. After that the Entente gave them more captured or obsolete ships.
After the war China maintained a single imperial navy that is relatively small, they don't have the blue water aspirations of the PRC and have the British, French and Japanese to turn to if they ever need something more than coastal defence.

That's the one. Yeah theres a lot of instances of similar - the population making up "New Virginia" (the nation formed by a WW2 Vet on the other side of the 'Gate' between our world and the other) consists mostly of people from our world who had some reason or desire to find a quick escape... ie, ex-Nazis, Russian Communists, French and British colonials from Algeria and Rhodesia respectively, and Boers from SA, along with a steady trickle of Americans since the gate's opening in 1946...

The set up works quite well; the large "families" are given their own Domains, and then the populations from each group are spread around evenly - as it says in the book, each family is allowed to flavour their part of the pot, but not to create a new broth entirely... add in cross-breeding in the sucessive generations, and things net together quite nicely over time.

Oh, sounds like it could work then.
I guess it's true what they say about Rhodies are everywhere.

Thanks. I was just saying that I might make a map of the alternate timeline Earth from which this flag could have originated from
