-Backstory:
---25 years ago... Volteer, the Guardian of the Electricity element, was on route to a meeting in the Desert Canyon. Once there, he waited... And waited... And waited... But the dragons' he was supposed to be meeting didn't show up. Did they simply forget? No..... Something else was happening here...... Just then, a pack of Hydrakons lept out at him! He jumped back, but his back foot hit a rock and he fell to the ground. Still in his younger years, he was able to get up quickly. At the time, he was only 20 years old. Then the pack attacked again, this time though, he slapped them back with his tail! After giving them a beating, he was getting tired. Yet they still attacked him! Their strength seems never-ending!

"Oh no!" He shouted, "I have to get out of here before it's too late! I can't fight them off any longer!" He added, leaping into the sky and trying to fly away. He flew and flew until his wings throbbed in pain. Then he landed. All around him, it was just desert...

As he began to wander the desert, he grew hot, tired, and thirsty... The unforgiving sun beat down upon him, draining the very life out of him... Then, he looked up, and thought he saw an oasis. With trees, water, and shade... But it must just be a mirage... Thinking this was the end, he collapsed to the ground and passed out... But... It wasn't a mirage...

When he awoke, he was near a pool of sparkling water, under the shade of palm trees. He glanced down at his wounds he had sustained from the fight with the Hydrakons. They were all bandaged up with healing plants. But who did this? Just hen, a voice spoke to him. A female's voice...

"You're awake. Good. I was worried that you weren't going to make it." The voice said. It was a sweet, comforting voice. He looked over and saw a yellow female dragon with flowing blue hair and a red scaly belly. Her figure was very dainty, her feet were petite, and her long tail was limber. She was beautiful!

"Who- Who are you...?" He stammered.

"My name is Nera. I've lived here in this oasis for almost my whole life. Now tell me, what kind of fool are you?" Nera asked.

"What?" Volteer responded, turning up his nose. What did she mean?

"What kind of foolish dragon goes into the desert in your condition without food, water, or anything to keep the sun off your wings? Hmm?" She replied, bringing him a leaf with fruits on it. He ate the fruit. It was so juicy that he made a mess all over his snout. Nera giggled at his silliness.

About two days later, Volteer left. He thanked her for her kindness and promised to repay her someday... But fo the next few months, he couldn't get her out of his mind. He saw her in his dreams, heard her voice on the wind, and could seem to smell the fruits she had given him day after day... Finally, he knew he had to do it.

He returned to the desert oasis and sure enough, she was still there. Sun bathing on a rock near the pond. Her scales glistened in the bright sunshine. When she noticed him, she seemed puzzled. But before she could say anything, he rushed over to her and shouted;

"Please Nera! Become my mate! I haven't stopped thinking about you since that day I first met you! I will give up everything for you! Even my very soul! I love you!"

And with that, her eyes filled with tears and she embraced him, saying, "I thought you'd never ask..."

They later moved up into a cave in the mountains. Winter had come and a blizzard was rolling in. Volteer returned to their cave where his wife, and now his egg awaited him. The egg was very close to hatching now.

"I'm sorry dear... But it seems all the fruit has died and it's still too early for snow berries." Volteer said with disappointment. Nera nuzzled him as he came up to her.

"It's allright, we have enough to sustain us, and our child for the winter. Go ahead and seal up the cave." Nera replied. Volteer walked over to the cave mouth and began pushing the large boulder over the entrance. But suddenly a large Gryphon flew in! It screeched as it grabbed Nera with it's talons and quickly flew out of the cave!

"NERA!!!" Volteer shouted! He lept out after them, beating his wings as fast as he could! He could see Nera holding their egg! She must have been pulled out of the cave too quickly for her to release it! As the blizzard picked up, more snow pelted down. He began to see them fading from sight! Within minutes, they were gone... He heard Nera's voice shouting his name on the wind......... For hours he searched for them... But to no avail... His breath could be seen as he panted with exhaustion.

"NEEEEERAAAAAAAA!!!" he shouted. His voice echoed through the mountains... But there was no answer... Just then, he heard a faint cry come from below him... There were some palm trees below and one of them seemed to have a yellow tip... He flew down and peered through the fronds. Then, his eyes filled with tears and his heart raced. For what he saw in that tree, was a tiny baby dragon, that looked just... Like... Nera........ This was their child. She must have seen the trees below and dropped it, knowing he would be safe... He picked up the crying hatching and took him back to the cave...

Once there, he began to close the cave entrance. He felt something brush up against his leg and looked down to see his son looking up at him. There was a sadness in his eyes...

"I know.... Shhhh.... It's okay, I'll protect you.... Nero..." He said to the child in a soft voice... Then, through a small crack in the large rock, a breeze rolled in. And on it, the smell, of fresh desert fruit.................---

Now this guy sure looks familiar!

It's the lovely Volteer! I finally got around to drawing him in my style! His colors were a real challenge to do traditionally though. Especially the light cream colors. But overall I'm pleased with how he turned out. ^_^
