Description Wow, this has been sitting in my files for nearly half a year almost 100% completed. So today I decided to finish it and a few other smaller commissions while I take a break from the beast of a drawing I've been working on for another client. I'm at the stage with that one where there's soooo many details that when one thing doesn't quite look right I get irritated.

So here's Draigon's reference sheet.
You long-time followers may notice that I changed his design a bit from what it used to be, primarily on his horns and wings. I've also changed his species. He's now a Cliff Racer instead of a Valley Dragon like he was before. I think he just looks 10x better this way. I also experimented with a new shading style, and I really like how it looks. Not too glossy, not too sharp, not to fuzzy, just perfect. I also spent FOREVER toning his muscles to make him look much stronger than before.

Well, I'm tired, sore, and now I gotta go work the night shift. Fun stuff. LOL

Enjoy!

Have to say Neff this guy really looks like how I would imagine Dark Sahrend and stuff, been looking through some of these refs recently :3

Granted I never got a drawing of Dark Sahrend, and I do need to work him into my current concept as well.

Thanks.
Draigon was differently colored when he was younger. It was the curse of Sorceress' Dark Gift that made his colors darken, as is the case with all who receive it.

I must say I wondering when something like this might get done. Draigon looks absolutely amazing in this style. Reading this story, it seems to me that the Guardians collectively shot themselves in the foot with their treatment of him and created one of their worst enemies.

What's his actual element? The description here says he used fire but the old one said he's a shadow elemental.

Neffertity In reply to Azarius-Flashfang [2015-11-11 03:42:12 +0000 UTC]

He was a shadow elemental, but I've reworked his back story and made him a fire elemental.

Azarius-Flashfang In reply to Neffertity [2015-11-11 03:44:23 +0000 UTC]

Oh okay. Say does he have any allies besides Sorceress? And with her I use the term ally very loosely.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neffertity In reply to Azarius-Flashfang [2015-11-11 03:51:03 +0000 UTC]

Sorceress sees him as a son and protects him. She even gave him use of her castle in the burned lands.

But he does have many other allies. Most of them are underlings, and he also has the Corrupted Hydrakons under his command. He's also allied with the Fire Guardian's son, Cratos.

And his Number Two is a collosus of a dragon named Brutus. (Fun fact: Brutus was orignally created to be Neffertity's arch enemy before I created Draigon.)

Azarius-Flashfang In reply to Neffertity [2015-11-11 04:08:03 +0000 UTC]

Oh, can we expect to see a reference of him at some point? And also in his description I noticed something I'm wondering about now. What's an ancient flame dragon? I saw the scar that one gave him.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neffertity In reply to Azarius-Flashfang [2015-11-11 04:19:11 +0000 UTC]

Possibly very soon. He's been itching to be drawn lately. Lol

Excellent question. There are very few Ancient Flame dragons left because of thinning bloodlines. Elder Pyro and his mate Sayuri are among the last ones.

Unlike other Fire Elementals, Ancient Flame dragons have a much stronger connection to their element. Their flames are imbued with arcane magics that serve like a duel spell. For example, when they breath fire they can work a spell into their breath to deal an extra effect. Ancient Flame dragons are also impervious to all fire attacks and are literally so heat resistant that they can swim in lava unharmed. Other fire dragons would burn and die if they tried that.

Azarius-Flashfang In reply to Neffertity [2015-11-11 04:24:10 +0000 UTC]

Fascinating. It's interesting, I'm trying to consider ways where my characters could potentially weave magic into their elemental strikes to make them more potent.

I notice in your work there is a recurring pattern of dying races. First it was the Silver Cosmonians and now the Ancient Flame dragons. Any other ones that fit the bill like this?

And also I can't wait to see Brutus get drawn out at some point. I don't think I've ever seen his name mentioned until you told me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neffertity In reply to Azarius-Flashfang [2015-11-11 04:34:14 +0000 UTC]

Nope. Just those two races. The Silver Cosmosians are dying out because all of their males are dead. And their offspring will always take the race of the father.

As for the Ancient Flame, their race can only be continued by pure bloods breeding. And over the years their race has been breeding with other races and terminating their bloodlines.

He's old school. Like, first three characters I never made old school. Neffertity was going to be mated with Draigon, as I like the idea of black and white coming together, and Brutus was going to be her arch foe. But then when The Legend of Spyro came out and I saw Volteer for the first time I fell in love with his character. I created Nero to be Volteer's son, and I loved him so much that he became Neffertity's mate. Thus Draigon became her enemy and Brutus a background character.

Son of a gun, the Silver Cosmosians are just like the race I'm planning to use in my setting. Right down to the current lack of males, although remedying that problem is part of the story. The weird thing is I didn't even know that fact about the Cosmosians.

What kind of look does Brutus have?

Neffertity In reply to Azarius-Flashfang [2015-11-11 04:55:39 +0000 UTC]

That's pretty cool.

He's a 25ft tall dark purple dragon with tattered wings and bone spikes sticking out of his neck. His horns are thick and curved, and they have tribal engravings all over them. He has a black colored underbelly and a fiery colored stigmata on his back. He also has long spikes all along the lower half of his tail and a dangerous blade on the tip. He also has spikes on his shoulders and elbows.

Azarius-Flashfang In reply to Neffertity [2015-11-11 05:01:08 +0000 UTC]

Wow that is a large dragon. How is Draigon the one in charge in that case?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neffertity In reply to Azarius-Flashfang [2015-11-11 05:04:51 +0000 UTC]

Draigon is more powerful. And Brutus wouldn't dare to disobey Draigon since Sorceress protects him.

Azarius-Flashfang In reply to Neffertity [2015-11-11 05:08:16 +0000 UTC]

That makes sense. Another couple of questions I have, one what is Draigon's relation with the Dark Six, if any, and two how did Brutus come to work for Draigon?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Neffertity In reply to Azarius-Flashfang [2015-11-11 05:17:38 +0000 UTC]

Draigon has no relation with the Dark Six. They operate independently and only follow orders from Halkarou.

Brutus was the first dragon that Draigon recruited after he received the Dark Gift. Brutus was a Valley Dragon who ran away from home when he was very young. He hated being told what to do by his parents and ran away to the burned lands. It was there that he met Draigon and the two became, "friends" for a better word. He's been Draigon's right hand man ever since. And as he got older his body continued to grow larger and larger. He soon exceeded the size of even the largest of his race and he still continues to grow as the years pass. He also only relies on his own strength, as he does not have the Dark Gift.
