Backstory:
---Koadyack didn't remember much about his past… All he knew was that his father had left his mother before he was even born, and that when he was only a year old he somehow found his way to the Guardian’s Palace and lived there for two more years quite happily. But for some reason… His first year of life was a black hole in his memory… He remembered nothing from that first year… But as a child he never let it bother him much. On the first day he arrived at the Guardian’s Palace, he met a dragon who would later become his best friend in the whole world… Nero…
At first, Koadyack was shy of this new place. He didn't know anyone there, let alone how to even speak. The guardian who cared for him was none other than Elder Darkon. How odd it was for the shadow elder, who never really wanted to take part in anything, was now caring for a strange-looking little dragon that had just wandered onto the Palace Grounds one day. Koadyack was named by Darkon, and even though he only cooed and made other strange noises, that sounded nothing like that of a dragon, Darkon treated him as if he was his son… So one day when Koadyack was playing in the palace, just a little over two years old, he bumped into a goofy yellow hatchling who was running around the palace as well.
“Ouch! What hit me?!” The small yellow dragon said as he looked up into Koadyack’s strange black and green eyes. At first he was afraid of such strange eyes, but upon seeing the cute child-like face and scraggy fluffy mane on top of the dragon’s head, he no longer felt the fear. The two got to their feet and the golden yellow dragon looked at the highly unusual dragon before him. It was his wings and tail that really made him look odd. His wings were a combination of feathers and membranes, but that’s not what made them odd. There were three large feathers one the longest finger of his wings that extended so long they almost touched the ground when his wings were tucked in. And his tail was all scales until about ¾ of the way down. Then it changed gradually to long fur, and looked like a rudder to allow quick controlled turns while running fast. And his scales… They were covered in a complex leopard-spot pattern only found in Canyon Gliders, but he was not a Canyon Glider? What was he?
“Brooo?” Koadyack cooed at the gold dragon. Even his breathing was rhythmic like an animal of some kind. Short, quick breaths in through the nostrils and he sniffed the gold dragon’s snout.
“Okay okay! That tickles! Hahahaa!” The gold dragon laughed. “You know, you’re not so bad for an odd one. What’s your name? Mine’s Nero!”
“Brooo!” Koadyack cooed again.
“Can’t you talk?” Nero asked, and Koadyack shook his head no. “Well then, I’ll teach you! I’m great at teaching! I don’t know why though? I hate teachers.” Nero laughed. And so for the next few days Nero taught Koadyack how to speak, and then the night came when he was ready to see if his training had paid off. He asked Koadyack once more, “So, what’s your name?”
“My name is Koadyack. And my good friend is Nero.” He had done it! Koadyack had spoken!
“Wow! You did a great job! So your name’s Koadyack huh? That’s kinda long don’t you think? You need a shorter, cooler name that really shows off how awesome you are!” Nero thought for a moment. “AHA! Got it! How about Koda? It still sounds close to Koadyack, and it also sounds cool!”
“Koda… I love it! So what do you want to do now Nero?” Koda asked, but just then, Nero heard a sound come from the other room. He and Koda walked towards it to investigate. They found that the sounds were coming from Elder Pyro’s training hall. Someone was learning about the fire element. The two boys peeked around the corner to see something extraordinary! It was the white dragon being trained! And it was a she!
“Wow… She’s so… Wow…” Nero said, infatuated by the dragoness. Koda only shook his head and laughed.
“You’re too easy Nero…” Nero looked over at him.
“Am not!”
“Are too! Look at yourself man! You just saw her and you’re already falling for her! You don’t even know her name!” Koda exclaimed.
“Yeah, but that doesn't matter! I just feel a special connection with her.” Nero said, blushing.
“Oh really? Then go talk to her.” Koda remarked.
“But I- We- Oh?! I think I hear my dad calling! Let’s go check it out and see what he wants!” Nero said hastily as he turned tail and ran off down the corridor. Koda couldn't help but laugh. He turned around and followed Nero down the corridor.
“Real smooth man… Real smooth…” Koda mocked. Just then, Darkon approached the two of them.
“Nero.” He said, giving a short bow. “Koadyack, I've just learned something about your past. Your mother is still alive, but I’m afraid your father will remain unknown… There are no recorded dragons that look like you in our data banks. So I’m afraid we may never know who your father is…” Darkon said.
“Well, that’s okay Elder Darkon, I think of you as more of a father to me anyways.” Koadyack said. And Darkon almost looked like he was about to tear up… “So who is my mother?” Koda added.
“Oh, well- We don’t actually know Koadyack. All we do know is that you have very very rare genes, and that finding your mother could be very difficult for us… You however, could find her much easier if you remembered her scent.” Darkon explained.
“Her scent? Well, the only thing I can really remember about her, was that she smelled a lot like fresh water and wind? If that makes any sense at all?” Koda said.
“Somewhat… It gives us a good lead. But if you want to be able to find her, you need to start your search now.” Darkon said sternly.
“Now? But what about Nero? He’s my best friend, I can’t just leave him…” Koda said.
“Koadyack, if you want any chance of finding your mother, you need to go out to look for her now… I can set up a scouting party for you. Some of my best warriors, trackers, and hunters. I will ensure that you can travel safely to find her…” Darkon said, raising Koda’s chin up.
“How long do you think it will take…?” Koda asked.
“Anywhere from 3 weeks, to 3 months… But I’m sure when you get closer to her, your instinct will take over to lead you to her… Yiou have one of the strongest instincts I’ve ever seen… Almost, wild in nature…” Darkon said. Koda turned to Nero.
“We’ll still be best friends when I come back right…?”
“Right! Always best friends!” Nero said, shaking paws with Koda, and then… He left…
About 7 whole long years went by before Koda even felt a tiny spark in his body about where his mother was. And oddly, it was when his scouting party neared the Frozen North? There were only few dragons that lived up there, and they were ice elementals. Luckily, so was Koda. And being nearly 10 years old at the time, he felt confident that he could climb the mountain to find his mother.
It was a perilous climb though… Five of his seven scouts had to return to the bottom of the mountain because of the shear cold. Their elements would not allow them to make it to the top… Only Koda and the other two ice element dragons were able to make it to the Ice Dragon village atop the peak. And as they entered the village, Koda began to see the looks the others gave him. He looked so odd, so strange… So weird… A large gray ice dragon approached him, and bowed. Koda returned hiss greeting.
“Welcome young ice one… You are quite-“
“Odd, I know… I’ve been getting that a lot it seems.” Koda finished the dragon’s sentence.
“No, I was going to say eager to find something. Are you by chance looking for something long lost?” The elder ice dragon hada raspy voice.
“Yes, how did you know?” Koda asked.
“I can sense it… You’ve been searching for a very long time without success it seems… But for what exactly I do not know…”
“My mother… I’ve been searching nearly eight years now for her… You wouldn’t happen to have seen anyone who looks like me around here lately have you…?” Koda asked. The Elder shook his head no… “I figured as much…” Koda turned to leave.
“Wait now young dragon…” The Elder said, and Koda stopped. “Just because I have not seen her, doesn’t mean you cannot still find her. Stay here in our village for a while and continue your search. I will even train you myself how to harness your innate abilities you have within you…” The Elder said. And Koda turned back, and bowed to him.
“Thank you Elder. I shall do as you say. Teach me and I shall listen…” Koda said. “Go back to my- Darkon… And tell him that I plan to stay here to train until I have the power to find my mother.” Koda said to the two scouts standing behind him. They gave a short bow, then departed. Koda was on his own now, but he was in good hands…
All of 8 more years passed as Koda learned everything there was to learn about his ice element, and he had also learned how to control his other unique abilities… Then, one late afternoon when a large storm hit, Koda picked up a very faint, but highly familiar scent in the wind… It smelt of fresh water… And the wind…
“My mother… I can smell her in the wind, she’s so close… Elder, may I go out to search for her…?” Koda pleaded. The Elder raised his snout into the fierce snowy blizzard.
“This blizzard is out for blood tonight Koadyack…” He said. “I can feel its intentions, and they seem to be directed at anything that dares challenge its might…”
“Please Elder… This may be my only chance to find my mother… I’ve trained for 8 whole years to hone my abilities in this element… Please…” Koda pleaded once more.
“I offer you this advice Koadyack… Don’t let your determination for your quest to be completed blind you to the truth… Sometimes a storm can torture your mind and make you see what you desire to lead you to your doom… Do not let that fate befall you…” The Elder said, turning to leave for shelter.
“Don’t worry Elder… I will be safe, and I will remember my training…” Koda said as he headed out into the storm… It was a powerful storm indeed… The Elder had been right about its power tonight, but Koda was determined to find his mother after all these years… He was about 18 ½ years old, and he longed to see his best friend Nero once again… What if he had completely forgotten about him… 15 years is a long, long time… As his mind wandered, his body climbed. On and on he went, following the scent carried in the wind, until it lead him to a hollowed ice cavern… It was not a natural-formed cave… It had been dug into the mountain by something… But was it his mother? Her scent was all over the place here. Cautiously, he walked inside… It was dark at first, and the entrance was very narrow. Koda just barely fit through it.
He searched the cave top to bottom, but all he found inside was a small pile of animal bones covered in snow… No one had even been in this ice cave for years by the looks of it… Was his mother already gone…? Koadyack left the cave with his hopes shot down and his senses lowered. He didn’t even notice the large drop-off just a few feet in front of him! Within seconds he stumbled in the thinner snow near the edge and he was sent flying over the cliff’s edge! He started to panic as his wings would not open quickly and allow him to catch himself from impact! The ground drew ever closer as he plummeted, and seeing that it was already too late to spread his wings and fly up, he shut his eyes and braced for the bone-shattering hit! THOOM! Koda’s body hit the hard snow like a falling star and he started to lose consciousness… But as he did, he heard a howl in the wind, and it drew ever closer… Then, a silhouette appeared in front of him and as it walked closer, it was clear that it was an Arctic Hydrakon, and a skinny one too… It must have been hungry… And now, here was fresh, helpless food… Koda fought to stay awake, but the pain was too much for him, and he blacked out…
He was quite surprised when he awoke and found himself inside an ice cavern. But more surprisingly, he was lying on a bed made from sticks and dried grass? How was he still alive…? Koda looked to his left and saw a freshly-killed deer lying beside him, and far behind it in the back of the cave was an Arctic Hydrakon watching him. It was the same one he had seen before he passed out. Skinny, but naturally skinny… It wasn’t hungry, it was a just a petite female… So why hadn’t she killed him…? She obviously made quite an effort to drag him all the way to her cave and hunt a deer as well. And even made a soft, warm nest to lay him on in addition, but why…? Koda tried to stand and an intense pain shot up through his left arm.
“Ahhhhgg!!!” He cried out in pain as he collapsed to the floor. The Hydrakon in the corner of the cave quickly stood up and took a few steps towards him. Koda gritted his teeth in pain as he held his arm with his other paw. It was definitely broken… The Hydrakon then walked into another portion of the cavern and then returned with some green plants and pink flowers. She brought them over to Koda who only watched her was she got so close to him that he could have reached out and touched her with his snout… She gently placed the plants on his arm and as she did, he felt the pain start to vanish… She was helping him… Taking away his pain… But why…? Suddenly, Koda caught a whiff of her scent… It smelt of fresh water, and the wind… Was it possible…? Could she by some miracle be… His mother…?
“You… You smell like the only memory I have of my mother… But that’s impossible… You couldn’t be… I’m a dragon, and you’re a Hydrakon, there’s not even a slight possibility you’re my mother… Is there…?” Koda said. “As if it even matters what I say… You can’t understand me, and I can’t understand you…” Then… Something astounding happened…
”And how would that be so impossible…?” Koda’s head shot up. Those words came from the Hydrakon’s mouth, but he heard every word of it…? He shook his head.
“The storm, my injury, they must be working together to fool my mind… I could have sworn that I just heard you speak…?” Koda said.
”Calm your movements… Your leg is hurt badly and needs to be still to heal…” Again, Koda heard the Hydrakon speak.
“Is my mind falling apart? Or could it be…” He thought for a moment… When he was younger, before he had met Nero and learned to speak Dragon, he had only cooed and made other odd undragon-like sounds… Could it be that that whole time he was actually speaking Hydrakon…? And that this Hydrakon here, who he now heard speak, was his mother…?
”Shh… Hush my son…” Koda’s body seemed to relax each time she spoke, it made him feel safe… Then, she started to sing a lullaby to him…
“Calm your spirit,
calm your thoughts.
Rest and relax,
safe in my arms.
Have no fear,
your mother is here.
I will protect you from anyone,
my spirit will still guide you when I am gone.
You will always be my love,
my soul,
my breath.
My faithful son…
Rest and relax,
you’re safe in my arms.
Rest and relax,

Safe in my arms…”
And with that, Koda drifted peacefully off to sleep… When he awoke, he felt rejuvenated and anew. His leg even felt like it was fully healed. He was able to get to his feet and walk as he looked around the ice cave. Wait, where was his mother…? He smelt the air, trying to pick up her scent, but try as he might he simply could not find it… It wasn’t anywhere in the whole cave, not even a trace of it… It was almost like she was never even there…? Koda walked outside the cave and the sunshine shone brightly on the freshly fallen snow. It sparkled and glistened so beautifully, and he saw that he was only a few hundred feet from the forest. Koda spread his wings and leapt into the bright morning sky, looking back once at the cave as he rose higher towards the clouds. And for a split second, he thought he saw his mother standing below at the cave’s mouth, but when he blinked, she was gone… He turned and headed for the Guardian Palace, a quiet voice behind him echoed…
”I will always love you my son……….”---

FINALLY!
Koda has been DESPERATELY IN NEED of a new reference sheet... Everyone has been drawing his feathers and spots wroooooooong!
But now that he has a CLEAR digital sheet, his details are clear as day! And look, even a little peak at his Feral Form! 
And in case you guys can't tell from the sheet, Koda has NO SOUL-FIRE. He can use some ice element attacks, but he will never be able to master the element. This is because of his Hydrakon blood.

Awesome ref of one of my most favorite dragon you have. He is so beautifull.
Some questions (as allways xD):
- Does somewone other know about his dangerous feral form (Nero, Neffy, Kat, or someone else) and how often is this already happen to him, that he had triggered this form? Had he already injured or killed someone in this form?
- Is he mateable with a dragoness (like Kat), even he is cross bread? If yes, what would be the results when he make childrens with a dragoness? (25% Hydrakon, 75% Dragon? XD)

Actually, to add more detail to Kat's side, if (more like when) he mates with Kat there is a very good chance of the young looking like him, for K'tynic genes are dominant over a normal dragon's so they would have a good chance to be able to morph like Kat. If the embryo is able to morph they will make themselves look similar to their parents so when they hatch their birth form will resemble them. Like Kat's birth form, it resembles her father's form. Even if they look like Kat, they can still change there form to look like Koda. The amount of Hydrakon genes may be the same as she has said. Hope this helps...

-No one but he knows about his feral form, and it has only happened once. Hence why he tries so hard to avoid fights. And to answer your question, yes. He did kill someone... But I'm not going to say who...
-Yes he is. Well, there are actually a few scenarios possible with breeding. If he breeds with any other dragon in my land, all of the Hydrakon blood in him would not affect the babies at all. They would only get about 1% of it. Not even enough to get their father's coloration or markings. But if he breeds with Kat, who happens to have special genes that allow her to shapeshift, then the odds of their children having Hydrakon blood is increased to around 30%. One in a litter of 6 MIGHT have his eyes, but in a litter of two or three, at least two of them will have fur instead of scales. ^_^

It seems like even though I mentioned to every I've had draw him, they almost never got the size of those feathers, or their anatomy right. >~< I do kinda blame myself for that though, the traditional ref made it REALLY HARD to see how long they were.

He carries them as if they were a regal cape. And tries to carry them off the ground to keep them from catching on anything. But even for feathers, they are a bit heavy because of their massive size and length.
