God, I haven't draw anything equine-related for sooooo long, and this piece have take me AGES to finish but I'm so proud of the ambiance here !  And I'm so glad to draw my pretty boyz' again !

Aaaaah, that's feel good to come back in HARPG

Story :

"It's so cold, but so wonderful in the same way... Ah, I have missed Zdarloch so much. This place is really beautiful."
Matthew sighted with joy with a friendly look to Nao, who agreed with an approbation movement of his head. Nearly one year after the Frendensborg Royal Dressage Event, the both boys were back in teh Zdarloch Estate for a bit. This time, that was not for a show, or at least not a show like Matthew usually entered. Caelyne and Matthew decided few weeks before that Uxor had make his proofs on the competitions grounds as an excellent dressage horse, and that was the perfect timing to present him in the grading show. So, they take the truck and the road to Zdarloch again, but just Matthew and Nao, like the previous year. It was not difficult to convince Nao to come : with his older brother at the stables, the young man only wanted to escape every time he could.

So, they were both here, two men in the cold winter of Denmark. It was the afternoon, the sun sunset had beginning and they were waiting for Uxor to enter the Halter Class for the grading. That was, honestly, the class with which Matthew was the more confident. The liberty, which would take place the following day was without worry too, but the class which worries the dressage rider the most was the free show-jumping class. As a dressage horse, they - Caelyne and him - never tried to make Uxor jump too high, so that was a complete mystery about what going to happened during this class. Because of that anxiety, Matthew wasn’t really himself these past hours, and despite the nice words of Nao and his positivity, a kind of shadow was constantly in his face.

And the minutes were running, their appearance get closer and closer, and Nao began to worried too. Not about Uxor - the stallion was surprisingly very quiet despite all the horses around him -, but about Mat who was more and more anxious.

“Mat, stop thinking about tomorrow. You’re so stressed that you will ended by stress Uxor too if you continue to think about tomorrow.” the young man said to the man who became, after two years in the Ivory Hill Stables, a kind of friend.

“I know.” answered Matthew “But I can’t help doing thinking about the free jumping class. And if he fail ? Or worse, if he fall ? He kind of never seen a jumping bar during his whole life.”
“He won’t.” said Nao with a smile. “Remember that Caelyne helped you to prepare him for this grading. Did you reaaaally think that she will NOT show him some jumping bars before ? She did, I was there, and Uxor jumped very well for a dressage horse.”
“You WHAT ? You have make my head dressage horse jump without my consent ? Are you like serious ? He could have been hurt !” shouted suddenly Matthew to Nao, and making some people around them looking right at the boys. Nao immediately launch him an angry look.
“Hey, calm down buddy, that’s not me who make him jump, that’s Caelyne, you know, our boss. And you know as well as me that she knows well how to introduce jumping to a beginner horse. She do it with the maximum possible safety and you know that. She take on her the time to prepare your horse for a grading you want. And the only thing you think about was about an injury which does NOT happened ? Come on, Mat.”

And then there was silence. It wasn’t the habits of Nao to react like that, nor to put another stable member in his place. So, Matthew was really surprised, but positively surprised. That was the sign that Nao finally began to feel comfortable in the estate. The pressure immediately goes down and the Dressage Rider smiled with an apologies face.

“You’re right. About all. I’m sorry. I have to say that I feel less stressed for tomorrow, now.” he said with a calm voice.
“Great. Now, focus on the halter class, that’ll be your turn soon.” answered the blue-eyed young man.
“Yep my Lord.” answered Matthew. Nao laugh at the joke and started to continue to watch the turns of the others entrants.

Uxor, who had look at the entire scene of his humans shouted to one to the other, put his nose on his owner’s cheek. Matthew smiled at the stallion, who was literally adorable today. And the dressage rider was proud bout it. Thats was the result of years of training to make his horse less nervous outside the stables. That was not like the vet-check of the Frendensborg event which was so worse than it. Was that because the ambiance here was less stressed than during the dressage event ? Maybe. But whatever, Mat was proud of his boy. Yeah, Nao was totally right. He had to be confident about his horse. Uxor was exceptional and he knew it.

After a few other horses, Uxor’s name was called. Matthew take off his coat - he haven’t forget to take one for the waiting this time - and give it to Nao. The man lead his horse to the road between the trees. The ambiance there was magical. The lights were softs and despite the wind and the snow - which make suddenly Uxor a little bit more nervous -, Matthew feel really great for their turn.

To Nao’s point of view, his friend and Uxor were very great-looking. The colours of the tack, matched to those of Matthew's costume, made the couple really classy. This traditional tack was amazing and Eryn did an excellent job to make it with the participation of the Stables official partner saddler.

They began by the walk, and that was during this gait that Uxor show how this freaking wind make him anxious. He started to champ at the bit, ready to loudly neigh to call the othe horses. But Matthew, as they begin to walk, put his hand on the stallion’s neck, made some strokes and began to speak softly to the nervous black boy. Gradually, the horse started to be more relaxed and for his handler, that was the time to be more focus. The couple made some nice walk distances and then that was the time for the trot gait. Matthew feel a bit nervous, fearing that a upper gait make his horse too “happy” and so, harder to handle. But that was not the case, Uxor show himself as a perfect attentive horse to his handler. That’s at this moment that all of the class began to be enchanting for the dressage rider.

The remainders of the halter continue well and at the end, Matthew was really satisfy about their turn. All goes well and he was proud of his horse. He worked so much on him to lower his stallion’s fears, and this time, he was amazing. Later that night, Matthew goes to bed with a really positive feeling about the following day. Yeah, for sure, Uxor will be amazing.

When I started this drawing, I picked a picture from my fav' stock pictures gallery and I haven't seen that she was not on dA anymore and when I realized, I was too advanced in the drawing to remake all of it.  I Just wanted to say that as I remember, I respect her rules about stock using for reference & not for other stock purposes or to sale anything. I hope using her stock is stil OK as she's not on dA anymore, but I'll understand if this drawing is not accepted as an entry for this reason.
