You are welcome! I can't imagine the ammount of work that went into it, but why am I surprised it was you who did it after creating a top notch exobiology project. That needs a hell of a thought and dedication!

Very low resolution, yet far to large to fit my screen in anywhere near the full size. That in itself cleverly communicates something about the diversity of extant organisms.

Thank you! The actual print of this image measured 3 by 3.5 meters, and looked like a huge mandala...

Only extant life, from what I can see, right?
Still very clever and nice.

Thanks! Only extant life is shown, as extinct critters cannot be analyzed for their DNA.

Ah, well then I see why. Just curious, really. And I should've known that'd be the reason.
Still... no whooly mammoths ;.;

You presented an amazing amount of information in such an artistic way. Absolutely amazing.

Thanks! I'm a big fan of your work as well...

Even with so much diversity, all I can say is that all living things are connected.

Fabulous! The invertebrates on the right side must have been the most difficult part.

Actually, the plants were the hardest bit - due to the difficulty of finding good images.
Invertebrates were easy and fun to draw.

This is really well done! The consistency of style for a project that took so long is impressive, and the flowing composition is a nice metaphor for life itself.

Absolutely fascinating, this piece. I'm no scientist, but I can appreciate the idea that all life on Earth evolved from a single organism.
I would like to send this along to a biologist friend of mine; she would be extremely thrilled to see something like this.

This is outrageously, baffleingly massive.
Lordy, this is crazy huge. It must have taken quite a bit of research!
You are truly a man of science!

It's always nice to see a big cladogram . A pity that there aren't more.
I'm no expert, but recently saw this video:
[link]
(an environmental microbiologist talks about energy conversion in the microbial world, especially termite guts). He showed a tree of life where animals, plants and so on were all on a small branch of a huge tree which went in different directions.
Your tree is very great for getting an overview, but isn't this distortion misleading, too?

For future reference, a platypus' tail is dorsally flattened as opposed to laterally flattened. I understand that references for platypus anatomy are scanty outside australia, Tiina on the spec list had the same problem.

It is actually dorsally flattened in that picture.

It's a bit oversimplified to qualify as a scientific illustration but I still really enjoy it on an artistic and social level. Imagine the awe of someone who knows nothing about evolution being able to see how even squids and humans have a common ancestor! I would orgasm to see this as a complete piece as a 3D helix shape. Speaking of comprehensive chronicling of organisms, have you heard of the Encyclopedia of Life? [link]

Better yet, imagine the individual drawings sculpted out of steel wire and arranged on an actual tree... I've heard of this site, but it's a bit cluttered and a little inaccurate. Most of its content can already be found on tolweb.org.

Cluttered and inaccurate? It's a work in progress. It won't be "finished" for years to come.

I know, but for example, they have errors like the picture of a basilisk lizard in the place of an amphisbaenan. I'm sure the differences will be smoothed out in due time.

Wow! it is? and that wasn't an Indiana Jones quote, in which one do they say it? the old ones or in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?

heheh, indeed! but cycliophorans are not the only absent group in this cladogram. It has some sweeping generalizations due to the width of its scope.

Purely magnificent!
I would only suggest doing something with the interactive version scrolling back to the upper-left corner everytime one chooses a creature to read about

Awesome! That's the low-res, and it slowed my computer down.
Congratulations again on the exhibit!
