It's not exactly a new or original observation, but it concerns a problem that unfortunately continues to widely persist. There have been far too many occasions on which in the course of having an actually rational discussion with someone on the interwebs, some third party commenter felt the need to interject with some response like "Wow, I can't believe you guys actually had a mature and well-tempered discussion". Here's a tip: if you want someone to take what you're saying seriously, try not to phrase it in a way that makes them want to punch you in the face. I imagine that's not how you probably talk in real life to strangers.
