~silver Scar Cat: I have to agree with you. The creators pretty much decided that NanoFate and Fate are the ONLY things that the fans want to see, since that's the most vocal part of the fanbase. "Never mind the others who want to see a good story and character development! If that's what they want, then that's what they'll get!"

The animation was pretty good, and the fight scenes were alright, but this movie was a huge failure in terms of character development. If the characters change throughout the movie, then that's what I'll call a good movie. But this movie didn't really do much to add depth to the characters other than Fate. Plus, a lot of characters had their roles reduced, particularly Chrono, who had a pretty important role in A's since his father died when they dealt with the Book of Darkness incident YEARS ago. And then, you have characters who were just written out of the movie, like Yuuno (who's my favorite character in Nanoha, by the way), Zafira and Arf.

Man I really need to see this movie. And the first one. I don't care if the plot suffered from being condensed, I already watched the seasons they're based off of, so I'll be fine.

silverscarcat is rather critical on the movie, so don't expect much from the overall plot

Too bad the deliver fell completely flat though.

Nanoha in the series showed several moments, in A's alone, that proves that she's tough as nails and worthy of that nickname "White Devil".

This...

"Nanoha" showed ZERO moments during the movie that she's anywhere NEAR as tough or as strong as she SHOULD be.

I find her sparing with Fate when the devices where in repair was a quite impressive show of determination
at least we got a nice sequence with Alicia

SilverScarCat In reply to neogoki [2013-04-02 14:10:07 +0000 UTC]

But that scene was completely pointless in the movie. It did nothing to further the plot, only did anything to pander to the NanoFate crowd and it could have been cut out, along with Fate being at school (after she introduces herself, they could have cut out), as well as nanoha and Fate walking away from the school. Write all that out and give us some GOOD action sequences...

Or maybe just give us Lindy vs the Wolkenritter action, cut down on the Nanoha and Fate TF scenes by over a minute and you'd have plenty of time to give Lindy some action screen time!

neogoki In reply to SilverScarCat [2013-04-02 14:14:38 +0000 UTC]

so all things considered it was not that good a plot, then again the selling point of such Movies is the animation and action

SilverScarCat In reply to neogoki [2013-04-02 14:28:05 +0000 UTC]

The only thing that was good was the animation, the action was horrendously dull!

Well, except for the fight against the Core of the Book of Darkness, that was seriously cool, but WHY was Yuuno there when he had less than 1/10th of 1% of ANY screen time in the movie?!

Really, they abridge the first fight scene so heavily that they make TFS DBZ Abridged fight scenes look long in comparison!

The 2nd fight was basically a combination of Nanoha and Vita's 2nd round and Fate and Signum's desert fight, nothing new there, but instead of seeing how it would end without outside interference, we skip around and get NO CONCLUSION!

Not to mention that Signum and Fate never establish a rivalry in the movie...

Also, WHY didn't the Wolkenritter LISTEN in the movie?!

NEITHER Nanoha NOR Fate established that they were part of the TSAB/DAB in the movie, like they did with the series. There was no masked men running around doing interference.

The hospital battle sequence, well, sheesh, that was just kind of lame over-all, since it was a direct cut and copy from the show, just replacing the Twins with NachtWal.

And WHY did Reinforce attack Nanoha and Fate in the movie?!

There's no Hint that she had no choice, she didn't say "I'm sorry, I must fight you or this thing will take over again". She doesn't have the excuse she did in canon of Hayate wishing them to die because Hayate saw two girls she thought were her friends killing her family, so she got pissed off. In the movie, she saw the device kill her family, if anything, she'd want to kill herself!

And now, the Reinforce vs Nanoha fight was the ONLY fight in the WHOLE movie that was ANY good...

But STILL!

They ruined it!

I saw Photon Lancer Genocide Shift and was like "Woah! That's awesome!" and I was starting to get interested again and...

BAM! Cut back to Fate in the LDE!

Then, when they cut back to Nanoha and Reinforce, they SKIPPED how Nanoha dealt with being surrounded by the Photon Lancer Genocide Shift, thus making any action POINTLESS!

And then Fate FINALLY gets her BDH moment...

And it ruins BOTH Nanoha AND Hayate's awesome moment from canon!

Instead of Nanoha slowly, but surely, fighting back against Reinforce and overcoming her, despite the power difference and Hayate taking control of Reinforce to stop her, we get Fate busting out, then NachtWal holds back Reinforce and...

ARRRGH!

SilverScarCat In reply to neogoki [2013-04-02 14:37:13 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I found the movie INCREDIBLY boring and frustrating to watch.

It's just... Both movies pandered *SO* much to Fate and NanoFate without giving Nanoha, Yuuno, Chrono, Suzuka OR Arisa much development at all.

I don't want to watch a movie about NanoFate and Fate! I wanted to watch a movie about Nanoha A's with GOOD action sequences, character revelations and development and surprise twists!

There was NONE of that in the movies!

I would have been happy with just some good action and was satisfied
then again I set my hopes rather low, makes room for positive surprises

SilverScarCat In reply to neogoki [2013-04-02 14:55:38 +0000 UTC]

That's all I wanted, was good action...

Cuz, I KNEW Yuuno wasn't going to get much (if any) screen time. With the way they used him, they might as well had written him out.

I KNEW that it would pander to Fate and NanoFate fans.

I KNEW that the Wolkenritter development would basically be scene-for-scene from canon.

I KNEW all that.

I would have been happy with that.

IF the action scenes had been better!

Hell, here's how I would change the first action sequence after Vita smashed Nanoha down.

Fate would have dropped a Thunder Rage on Vita, causing her to jump back, then, as Fate dove down, Signum shows up and smashes Fate away. Signum tells Vita to hurry up and goes after Fate. Arf tries to help, but is intercepted by Zafira. The two of them fight while Signum and Fate fight. Fate's obviously worried and frustrated that she can't get past Signum, especially as she sees Vita walking towards Nanoha again.

Vita, just as she opens the book to absorb Nanoha's Linker Core, gets shocked when Nanoha points an open hand at her and blasts her with a pink blast, sending Vita tumbling back and away. Nanoha, who has been shown to barely be conscious, passes out, and then Vita, pissed off, rushes up and starts draining Nanoha quickly.

While that happens, Signum is dominating Fate, though Fate keeps her cool (no Femo (Fate+Emo) moment from her), Bardiche gets cut and she gets slammed down again. Fate's injured, maybe coughs up some blood, but gets back up, Bardiche goes "Recovery" and Fate, despite being injured, possibly bleeding and hurting, still is fighting. Arf finally grabs Zafira and throws him into a building and rushes towards Vita, trying to stop her, but then Shamal binds her up and Zafira gets behind Arf and then Zafira smacks Arf hard in the back of the neck, knocking her out.

Finally, Signum hits Fate so hard that she's on the ground twitching and coughing up blood, Signum points Laevantein at Fate and says "don't move, you'll die". Fate's like "I would rather die... Then let you hurt my friend!"

Signum nods, then smashes Fate with Laevantein, knocking her out and letting her drain Fate after Vita's done with Nanoha.

Now then...

Doesn't THAT seem more awesome than what the movie had?

Come on! If they had the budget for pretty effects, surely they could have spared the time to make the fight scenes more epic than ever!

If they could make this movie, they had to have a big budget. If they couldn't support that much special effects, then why would they make a movie?

SOOO frustrating to see a franchise that you love start pandering to one part of the fanbase at the expense of the rest of the fans and the plot.

I just remember:
was there ever stated in the Movie that the Knights remember what happens once the book is completed?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SilverScarCat In reply to neogoki [2013-04-02 16:07:05 +0000 UTC]

... I can't say for certain, however, there *IS* the scene of them talking to Reinforce in the past and she has NachtWal on.

SO! By that logic, they KNEW what was going to happen.

The movie has to go out of its way, with showing Reinforce in the past, to show that the Knights had NO idea what happens when the book was complete.

But the movie didn't.

wonder if this is a case "Deleted scenes" which were cut due brutality or something like that (would explain the strange cut for Photon Lancer genocide Shift)
