I wanted to do a modernized take on SMW's Mario sprite, hopefully one that captures the original feel, but doesn't look rather dated by today's pixel art standards.The original is on the left, and the new one I've made from scratch is on the right. I might do more of this in the future for a small project I'm thinking of.

I would too, but I don't plan on doing a full remake at all.
The closest I might get is a playable, heavily abridged version SMW to kinda showcase what a expanded version of SMW could be. Maybe if SMW was remade for that Super Nintendo CD?

Nah, not for that silly CD-i trash, I mean the Nintendo Playstation that had almost came to be(but was canned by Nintendo and Sony).
We do know that, if anything, Secret of Mana was originally planned to launch on it, but I'm pretty sure they would've made a Mario game for it too, just like Sega did Sonic for the Sega CD. I imagine it could have been a game based on Super Mario World.Β
A game based on that wouldn't by any means be a perfect imagining of a SMW on the Nintendo Playstation, with its rules and limitations. But I mean, unless a Sonic Mania type thing happened, I can't think of another reason SMW would've been remade, at least with new 2D sprites(it would most likely look like New Super Mario Bros if released now)
