Description
Alma begat Sane, and Sane begat Ren. Ren begat Alvin, who in turn begat Bartholomew. Bartholomew begat John, who was called Owen. Owen's brother Frank begat Merlin. In those days, the Riverrean Empire, under Emperor Billius Addams, promised peace and freedom for all people, regardless of age, sex, race or utility. One citizen was Alexandria the Historian, who denied the existence of gods and higher powers and persecuted followers of any religion. People cursed her left and right, wishing ill will upon her entire family.
This curse, through Alexandria's friend Hedwig, was fulfilled. On the day in which Hedwig was conceived, the Knight entered the womb and consumed the weak soul of the infant. From there the Knight grew up among men, hiding his identity until the time was right. Nobody remembered or even knew the legends about Pei and the Knight.
Hedwig reached adulthood, and so did the Knight. The Knight took full control over his host and began to plot his rise to power. The Knight went before the young wizard Merlin and offered glory and wealth to the wizard in exchange for a suit of armor of immeasurable strength. Merlin, naive in his youth, agreed to the task, and forged a suit of armor from pure silver, a luxurious metal garment complete with a beautiful spiked crown, which Merlin enchanted to grant luck to the wearer.
The Knight left the place and began amassing followers, launching attack against attack on villages and nations. Through the Knight's Cursed Power, he raised a temple in his honor, where anyone wishing to devote themselves to him will be safe from his rampage. Despite the Knight's Soul inside the host, Hedwig still existed deep within the husk, unable to overpower her captor.
Merlin heard about the chaos, and felt sorrow for his foolishness. One night, Pei came to Merlin to speak.
Merlin saw Pei and was scared. "Oh mighty Spirit, please spare thy soul".
"Please don't talk to me like that, it's rather disrespectful," was the reply.
"Why did you come to me?" asked the young man.
"Because you have the power to defeat the Knight, which you mistakenly helped."
Pei went into Merlin and granted him the Author's Light, and Merlin went in search of the Knight.
Meanwhile the Knight forsaw his death was imminent, and so wedded with Alexandria to bear children and restore him generations later.
The field was set - Merlin on one side, the Knight on the other, in a battle to determine the fate of the world.
