Description Okay so like, I can FINALLY show this!

I did this for ImagineFX's magazine's Art Class feature. They paired me up with a Pro (Nick Harris [link] ) and he took my original Image [link] and then painted over it with ideas.

I then took my own original image back and used his ideas to paint my own version... all with the intent of answering my questions regarding my piece and artwork.

We did this over a period of 4 sessions, over email. He giving me tips and paintover ideas and me taking my piece and painting myself.

I never used his paintover work, I always worked myself on my own image - so this is all mine.

I really can't believe I painted this LOL it made me feel really confident and good about my painting, this exercise -- and Nick taught me SO MUCH. He's really quite wonderful and was so easy to work with. I'd LOVE to collaborate with him again to get his help and insight!

well not so busy, but I did just get my VERY first paying art job, so I guess that is kinda exciting!! I'm selling myself on the cheap ($8 per piece) but it'll be some great experience and practice

I got this months copy of ImagineFX today and saw this. The transformation between the two is amazing: the updated image is more colourful and dramatic compared to the old one.

A fun article to read and it sounds like not only you had a lot of fun with the painting, but learned a lot as well, plus Nick sounded like a good teacher. Well done!

Thanks so much Yeah I had a total blast, he was GREAT He actually just emailed me to ask how I liked the article and how it came out, etc. Such a gentleman! I don't have my copy yet

That looks like an amazing session. I can see why you're proud, this is easily one of your better pieces! The sense of color and form has really improved.
Now you gotta apply all that knowledge you gained to your future pieces (which I'm sure you will).

Yeah - I'm really terrified to paint again :/ I have something in the works as a sketch - but I'm terrified of opening Photoshop and having it be just awful because of the lack of help from a collaborative source. eek, how lame is that!!!

Don't worry about. Remember the confidence you felt when you were doing this, tap back into the resources you gathered thanks to this and you'll be fine. And don't even worry if your next piece isn't on the same level. You had an industry professional guide you through this, it's only logical it's gonna be a step above your current work. Just remember what you learned, push yourself, and you'll be able to do this on your own before you know it.

That reminds me, I need to make a laundry list. I've noticed that I really forget to consider things, a LOT --- that was what I mostly learned while doing this -- to THINK and look and consider. It was priceless!

This is great! Nick sounds as though he is a great teacher. There is an old Disney "Silly Symphony" called the "Cookie Carnival" that this is vaguely reminiscent of. This is delightful and all yours.

Thanks He really was -- I really felt like collaboration was a light bulb. Though I'll admit I didn't know I could paint like this -- but all the steps we took to get this result taught me SO MUCH. I really would love to do more stuff like this with artists I admire, the learning process is wonderful!
