Description
Well I haven't painted in a couple weeks due to vacations, so in between I've done some practicing with values. I hope I've grasped something -- I have to do my cards for rpgcardgame.com though, practice or not, so this is another one (I send him the tiny PNG files with a transparent background, then I finish it out a teeny bit and post it here). All these cards are very sloppy-ish, as I work on them for a maximum of 3 hours, sometimes less. So please take that into account

How much of a brief do they give you for each of the character types?

a class, sometimes with detail. This one was: A rogue with a dagger and a mask.
The most detailed one was the Druid, which had to have a staff and nature elements around her.
All are just one sentence He's quite pleasant to work for, and so far, I've had nothing sent back for re-working. He pays in advance and likes how prompt I am, haha!

Bah! Anyone can do it, with time and dedication. I swear I think only design talent comes naturally -- as drawing and painting are just a matter of learning rules. If you can perceive well with your sight, drawing is easier to learn faster, but anyone can learn with practice.
Also, I'm drawing from reference, the only thing I'm choosing myself is what the character is wearing, painting it, the face, hair, details, colors etc. The figure itself is referenced for the pose from a photograph. Drawing is MUCH easier that way and in fact, using reference to draw is what most professionals will suggest for the learner
