Description Cue James Blunt song: youtu.be/oofSnsGkops

--

Here's a quick, humorous picture for an idea I came with a while ago, where Ken expresses his love and appreciation for the design of Legendary's Godzilla.

Back when Godzilla (2014) first came out, Japanese audiences criticized Legendary Goji for being "Too fat." Frankly, I find that to be the most irrelevant criticism about the film. I mean, his original Japanese counterpart is typically depicted having THUNDER THIGHS, for cryin' out loud!: youtu.be/T0C2l3cb2XQ

--

So yeah. I absolutely LOVE this Godzilla design to pieces! The King of Kaiju has never looked sexier.
But I'm also hyped to see Toho's new Godzilla in action in Godzilla: Resurgence later this year. ^^

No, not really. The Legendary Godzilla is 350 ft. tall and I'm about 5 ft., 9. So, technically, he's about 60x my size.

Even if he was fat, why should anyone care anyway? Godzilla's not human, he doesn't care if he's fat, he looks proportionate to me, besides he'd look terrible if he was skinny.

Thanks. If I'll be seeing the movies with Mothra, though, I'll have to see Godzilla vs Mothra to start that arc. And give me one reason not to check out the Roland Emmerich version?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nerdsman567 In reply to UnsolicitedDecadence [2016-01-26 00:54:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, just to clarify, there are three different eras in the Japanese Godzilla films (So far):

- The Showa Era (1954-1975)
- The Heisei Era (1984-1995)
- The Millennium Era (1999-2004)

Every time Toho reboots Godzilla (Like with Godzilla 1985 (1984) and Godzilla 2000 (1999)), they try to keep a consistent continuity where they only reference the 1954 original as the only thing canon that came before and ignore all of the previous films that came in between.

With that said, re-watching the original Godzilla vs. Mothra (1964) isn't entirely necessary, since it's only connected to the events of the Showa Era films, and has no relevance with either the Heisei or Millennium Era films.

I'm not saying you shouldn't see the Roland Emmerich version. In fact, you should probably see it in case you're curious in seeing the American Godzilla's lowest track record thus far.

Mothra only interests me because an insect mutant makes for a quizzical opponent to a lizard mutant.

One last thing: did you read how Gareth Edwards kept a playlist to inspire him on how to make his version of Godzilla?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nerdsman567 In reply to UnsolicitedDecadence [2016-01-26 01:29:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I heard him talk about that on the special features on the Godzilla (2014) DVD. Specifically, "The H.A.L.O. Jump" sequence, where he was inspired by the music from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

JIMENOPOLIX [2016-01-25 23:35:16 +0000 UTC]

I didn't think he was fat at all. To me, it seemed like his muscles.

nerdsman567 In reply to JIMENOPOLIX [2016-01-26 00:20:26 +0000 UTC]

I know, right? I don't understand why people think that!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JIMENOPOLIX In reply to nerdsman567 [2016-01-26 00:23:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, it could be because he used to be a rubber suit, it was perfectly well-balanced. And now that he's computer-generated, they could make him look more monstrous and less human-y. So they just add weight to him to make him look bigger and heavier, thus making him more threatening.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nerdsman567 In reply to JIMENOPOLIX [2016-01-26 00:26:34 +0000 UTC]

So, basically, you're saying people are taunting this design just because it's new?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JIMENOPOLIX In reply to nerdsman567 [2016-01-26 00:44:50 +0000 UTC]

Pretty much. You know how people react to "new" stuff. Usually, because they're used to the old style, they don't wanna see a new style, thinking it ruins the original essence of the character. Some styles change for the better. Others throw people off.

Like me: you know that recent redesign of Chuck E. Cheese? I hated it. Why did they have to redesign him? "Because he will be much more relatable to this generation of kids." Oh, so they're saying he represents how our kids are like nowadays? If that's the case, our kids have grown up way too fast.
At least I still went to Chuck E. Cheese three more times recently despite my old age, and it's still as fun as when you were a kid. What really throws me off is that new Chuck E. design. Yeah, granted, he has gone through many changes in the past due to how creepy he looked, but at least they seemed to have found a balance with the purple-outfit Chuck E. And now they have a tiny, CGI Chuck E., which, while he's not bad, I think has no real purpose to exist.

Which is funny because I'm a big Mickey Mouse fan, and yet I did welcome that new Mickey Mouse design on the new Mickey Mouse cartoons on Disney Channel...

nerdsman567 In reply to JIMENOPOLIX [2016-01-26 01:09:50 +0000 UTC]

To be honest, I think Legendary's design is for the better. This is the first time we've actually had a "realistic" depiction of Godzilla (Of course, I say "realistic" very loosely, because . . . You know). TriStar attempted a more grounded look with Godzilla (1998), which, of course, ended up being completely implausible and as far removed from the character of Godzilla as possible.

With Legendary, this Godzilla feels a lot more well thought out. You can tell the studio really took their time and effort planning out this design. I especially like how the designers intermixed the basic design of Godzilla with actual elements from nature with different animal features (Body structure of a bear, head of an eagle, crocodile skin, etc.). Hell, I admire the fact that we FINALLY have a Godzilla with gills for once!

You just made me smile

About that criticism, well...it's a giant reptile which destroys cities and is thirsty of blood. I don't think it's supposed to look like a European Male Model XD XD XD Sometimes fans can be so shallow.

Have you ever heavily hit by accident a person? If you don't want to answer:

You tell me that you used to be a fan of "Regular Show", but someday you stop liking it. However, before that: was there an episode you really loved from that show?

In my case, my All Time Favorite is "Eggcellent", where Mordecai has to eat a great omellete to win a trucker's hat. Cute story about friendship, great example of teamwork, pretty good climax, and the best use of the song "Holdin' Out for A Hero"; it even inspired me to make a video using that song XD XD XD

See yoU!

Haha I'm glad!

I know, right? Some fans can be really cynical when they want to be.

Yes. I stopped watching Regular Show because its formulaic plotting got extremely repetitive for me.

My all-time favorite RS episode is "The Power," where Mordecai and Rigby use a magical keyboard to influence people to give them whatever they want. However, they specifically use it to get Benson to give them a raise so they can fix the hole they make in their room in the beginning of the episode. It was the first RS episode I ever saw when it first premiered (Aside from the original pilot). The scene where Rigby uses the keyboard to wish for random stuff to be sent to the moon while waiting in the cart always makes me laugh!
