Today was a quiet day at work, so I managed to color my portraits of Quick Ben and Kalam I submitted earlier.I think I'm starting to like doing these kinds of colored portraits. Only thing is they make my hand cramp, as well as probably annoying the hell out of anyone near me because of the constant clicking sound.

I love your Malazan fanart! Ben and Kalam are my favourites, but Tehol Beddict and Karsa Orlong are two close seconds. Great job on all the characters, you've really captured them the way I imagined them in my head

The description of quick ben being black came too far into the book, after I had already internalized his appearance - so every now and against I have to remind myself.
Also, I always picture kalam as looking more like the desert tribesmen (like Corabb) since it talked about him "Returning to seven cities" and his "duty to shaikh". I know he's darkskinned, but this makes him look more african than middle-eastern.
Not that i'm complaining, its refreshing to see what other people dream up for their characters' appearance. It would be interesting to know how steven erikson himself pictures them.

This looks even better with the colors.
I especially like how you did Kalam. Even though there isn't a strong expression on his face he looks pretty threatening. I think it is because of how you drew his eyes and thus absolutely fitting.
Don't ask me why. But I always thought purple would look great on Quick.

It's weird that purple thing how it actually suits him, although at first it supposed to be a magenta scarf, that being the imperial color and all. To me it just looked too girly so opted for purple instead.

You're right about that. I never quite understood why magenta is the imperial color. It's basically just pink in the common language. You just try and have some credibility as a world conquering empire when your troops are all dressed in girly clothes.
