The sun had set and Sapphire City's streets blazed with street lights. Humans and Mobians roamed the sidewalks. Silver tried to blend in and look as if he knew where he was going.

The Chaotix said that Shadow had a hangout on the seedy side of town, down by the cheap apartments. But as Silver picked his way along the cracked pavement and cringed away from barking dogs, his resolve wavered.

Shadow wasn't known for his friendly demeanor. Mighty had advised Silver to escape via telekinesis if Shadow turned hostile--which was likely. Somehow Silver already knew this, and sweat dampened his fur.

Even if his conscious mind didn't remember Shadow, his subconscious did. And dread dragged his footsteps like lead weights. But why? What had Shadow done?

Silver turned a corner and froze. A streetlight cast a wedge of light across a windowless building front, and lurking on the edge of the light was Shadow and the death robot Omega.

Then Silver marveled that he recognized them. All he could see of Omega was his glowing red eyes and one shiny metal arm. Shadow was a spiky silhouette, and his left eye glowed red, too.

Silver's tongue stuck to the roof of his mouth. He had to swallow twice before his voice decided to work. "Shadow?"

The black hedgehog and robot stared at him without answering.

Silver mustered his courage. "I need to ask you some questions."

"What about, Silver?" Shadow's voice was a deadly purr.

He knows who I am. Silver's spines tightened as fear made him bristle. "About what happened in Soleanna."

"Nothing happened in Soleanna."

But Omega shifted positions, as if uncomfortable.

At least he hadn't been attacked yet. Silver forged ahead. "Something happened--to me, I mean. But I can't remember. You were there, so I wondered--"

Shadow disappeared. Silver gaped at the spot where he'd been--

Something struck him in the back of the head. Silver hit the pavement with stars exploding in his vision.

Shadow spoke overhead. "That's what happened. Don't ever look for me again."

I know there's a tremendous amount of mistakes in this, but I'm trying to learn to paint in this style again. Made in Photoshop.
