___
The train trip from Sapphire City to New Mobitropolis was six hours long. Silver spent the first half wishing something entertaining would happen, and the second half wishing he hadn't wished it.
Blaze rode in silence in the seat across from him. The compartment was full at first, but emptied at every stop until Silver and Blaze were alone.
Blaze shot Silver an odd look. "Want to be friends?"
Silver studied her. "I suppose...but why? You're just a street performer and I'm..." What was he? A hedgehog with no memory? A drifter across the face of Mobius?
Suddenly he missed the Floating Island and everyone on it. At least he felt at home there.
Blaze looked out the window. "I think we could be good friends, if you wanted." Then her eyes focused and she stiffened. "What's he doing?"
Silver looked and his stomach shriveled. They were climbing the steep mountain grade north of Sapphire City, and the train had slowed to a crawl. A stone wall rose on one side and a cliff fell away on the other.
And a black and red hedgehog ran alongside, peering in the windows.
Running? No--skating on air, with light burning from the bottoms of his weird shoes.
An orange chaos emerald flashed in Shadow's fist.
Dread plunged through Silver's middle, although he didn't know why. He and Shadow made eye contact.
Shadow flung an arm toward Silver and his lips moved.
The window shattered. A wall of force struck Silver and knocked him against the back of the compartment. Blaze screamed.
Silver struggled to his feet, stunned. Glass sparkled on the seats and floor, and chaos energy crackled in his fur like static. The smell of ozone permeated the air.
Two hands gripped the windowsill and Shadow's head came into view. His half-robot face made no sense to Silver, like looking at someone who had been mutilated in an accident. Perhaps Shadow had been.
His monster-face turned toward Silver and grinned like a predator.
Silver threw a blast of telekinesis that bent the train's wall outward.
Shadow held on, unaffected. "Forgetting something, Silver? Wait. Yes."
"He's chaos-shielded!" Blaze exclaimed.
Silver's power couldn't touch Shadow. The memory swam out of the emptiness like a fish rising from the black depths of a well.
Then the train's wheels screeched beneath them, and the whole train sagged toward the edge of the cliff. Silver's telekinesis had warped the car and torn its wheels from the track.
Which would derail the entire train.

Way to create a mood, Net-san.
A lot of interesting ideas at play here but what has struck me the most, after reading through to this point... Was the contrast between intention and content. The focus character, Silver, wouldn't be here if you didn't think he deserved more attention and credit and so forth... Yet the only artwork so far where he is shown smiling is part 2. Sorry. This is just something I recognize and am mildly fascinated by. Doen'ts it sometimes seem as if the character that we most wish to improve the situation for... Often does the most suffering? Hrm.
Thanks for sharing this. Look forward to seeing what comes next in this... Uhm. Would it be correct to say that you have a comic here? Or... Is it better described as more of illustrated short story? It's an interesting way to present things. Beautiful art, as always.

Well, Silver's not exactly on a HAPPY quest, now is he? But you're right, I was noticing how I seem to draw him sad all the time. I'll add some nicer events to cheer him up. Well, after the train levitation scene. :-D
Not sure what this is ... not really a comic, or a graphic novel. If you search for Shadow's Story here on DA, you'll see what I'm attempting to do. He has some really awesome pics in that story.

Understood. But mostly: thanks. Being able to see and recognize these patterns in the works of others often helps me step back and take a more critical look at my own work. Know it will help me keep improving.
Wah... Train levitation scene? That's gonna be so awesome!
Thank you, I will take a look at your Shadows Story when I get the chance.

Good going Silv, you gonna cause a train wreck 0_o
Shadow is written very menacingly here. It's sincerely frightening. I remember a another image that creeped me out was back in a story where Robo Knux had someone trapped and the only thing you could see were his green, rippling eyes looking through the opening of debris. It might have been Pyramid of Gloom or another one.
By the way, I'm getting more progress in SQ but if you were to see another story adapted, which would it be?

Like ... ANY story? Or a Sonic one?
I'm afraid that my fave Sonic stories are the impossibly long ones. Alas! I haven't read any new ones for a long time. You might take a poll--have ppl submit their fave fics for consideration.

Preferably one of yours since I do well with what I'm already familiar with. I get a lot of feels from your work therefore I have a lot of fuel to work with. But sure I can take a look at some other recommendations too. I've been meaning to Jason's(Lepee) writings too.

What if you did No Echidna is an Island? Unless you're sick of drawing echidnas. That one just gives me such major feels. The other ones I really like--like the game adapts and Worthless and Slave and the Darkness--are all so dang long. You might like to, I don't know, finish one of these in your lifetime. :-D

Yeah, I also have to be realistic Unless a Kickstarter happened.
No Echidna is an Island I remember was good. It's been a while though so I'd have to give it a re-read. (I actually miss drawing Echidnas)
