Description
After longer than I care to think about, this pic is finally done. I'm sure it'll eventually get easier, but at the moment, digital painting just takes AGES. Like ... as long as a real painting. :-pMy goal is to draw dinosaurs that catch the fancy, and I thought it'd be great fun to pit a female Tyrannosaurus against an elephant. His tusks are exaggerated quite a bit, mammoth-like, so he'd have a fighting chance. And baby Rexy there in the grass is just scared. He really grew on me as I painted him. He may show up in another pic.
Done in Photoshop 6 with a mouse. Rawr.
Edit: I made a tutorial on digital painting from this pic. You can see it here: [link]

Not evil at all. While the Tyrannosaurus protects her young, Bill Elephants are pretty dangerous and agressive animals.

Still, bein' that T-Rex is one of the great predators of the age of dinosaurs, I bet it'll win against that elephant.

Yes. But as you see, wanting the Rex to win is the right decision, as supporting the Elephant would be evil instead.
So go Tyrannosaurus! Show that long-nosed freak whose Boss!

Plus, T-rex is used to dealing with prey with armored skin (like members of the ceratopsians), so an elephant won't be any different.

that loooked like a photograph from the Dev watch thumbnails. o.o
Wow, this is so reallistic! The texture on the Tyrannosaurus's skin is perfect. and teh dust that the little elephant/mammoth is kicking up is really good. Since Tyrannosaurs appeared in teh cretaceous, I can tell what point this is at. this must be REALLY late cretaceous (or just a time-lickedy split from teh imagination of you).
Technically I'm not sure (well nobody is) if the Tyrannosaurs had thoese funny "skin-horns" on their heads, but those are really cool. They remind me of those "Carnotaurs" from the Disney film "Dinosaur".
Also I'd say that the baby rex dude guy thing has a really good skin pattern on him, really wild like. His mother dosent have it though, (okay this may sound strange but I thought that the female wasnt the biological mom due to the missing pattern).
And the way teh female is stepping in the grass, wow, you must've put detail to that too, the dust is kicked up, and you can tell that the foot of the dinosaur is putting force towards the ground.
Now for the background, well now tahts soemthing else! The clouds are smudged in so you can really see teh love you put into drawing those (or can you? o.o) The trees, it looks like an African savana type tree, or reminds me of it.
HEY I can see the elephant's reflection in teh water, beautiful job! And its all water-like.
my God, honestly you're a grand master at this job. I wish I could buy it, but I'm only 12, and I'm unemployed (lol) so I don't have money, and I doubt my parents would let me borrow cash.
Poor little guy, he's so scared
WITH A MOUSE?! COMPLETELY! Wow, I must fav this, for the T-Rex has always been my favorite since I was 8.

Wow, thanks for the in-depth comment! I'm not gonna bother to stick to the evolutionary timeline for my dino pics. Dragons are never forced into a box like that, so my dinos aren't going to, either!
I gave the baby markings because young animals usually have spots or stripes to hide them from predators. They disappear as they grow older. Lion cubs have leopard-spots, and I was thinking a lot of lions as I did this pic. ... I was also thinking of what kind of armor a t-rex would wear, but hey. XD

True that. I mean I've seen a lot of "middle ages" type dragons in modern times pics. thats good, I like your determination!
Ah thats true about the markings. Oh and speaking of lions...
You know the Narnia series is comin out rgiht? I'm obsessed with those books, I've read them but I'm not sure THE EXACT ORDER, because a lot of people screw up the order, like they put "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" either as number 3, or 5. (I was taught that it was 3) or "Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" as the 1st or the 2nd. (I say second).
But Since I can tell you're a hardcore fan, I'd say you'd be the right person to ask.

There are two orders for the Narnia series. One is the order in which C.S. Lewis wrote them, in which The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is the first. The second is the order in which they take place within the universe of Narnia, in which The Magician Nephew is first.

I like the emotion that you put into the babies face. He looks genuinley worried that his mother might get hurt in the confrontation. Definatley a good digital painting! The grass is awesome and the whole background gives it a very good look.
