Description
Project for my drawing class. We were supposed to make a "subversive pattern" with 2 elements, one of them organic. We were to use white accent paper and no colour but I did anyway. After a few hours hanging in the hallway with the rest of my class's work someone who worked at the University bought it. Wooo!
Black and red ink on off-white rag paper, approx. 36" high
PS: I HATE SYMMETRICAL PATTERNS

Sweet, I love designs like this with the stylized leaves and everything. Really like the colouring and the splatter.

Very nice work, the colours meld very nicely. Just black and red ink? Like, indian ink? or did you use some grey-tone markers as well? I assumed it was watercolour, so you did a great job either way.
Just out of curiosity, what school are you going to? I'm currently a SIAT design major at SFU in vancouver and am applying to a couple of different art schools this term as I find it a bit stifling and technical here (commercial design at emily carr is the desired one, mainly because I can major in illustration or typography *nerdnerd*, or possibly the idea program at CAP). Any thoughts on your own school/program?

this is just amazing. i must check out the rest of your gallery later (:
i'm also applying for design unis in canada and i was wondering which ones are good, in your opinion? i'm also not very enthusiastic about applying for SFU, or OCAD. i don't live in canada at the moment so i'm not very familiar with the unis there. what's the idea program at CAP?

you could always look at their website...
Emily carr and capilano university are the bes for serious design students, but are highly competative. check out their websites.

Yup, just india ink and red calligraphy ink.
I am at Emily Carr and I love it. I'm going into the illustration program this year. I think if you have the right attitude it is a great school and their design program produces some incredible designers. c:

I really really like this. Although you may hate symmetry, I can't imagine this looking better as an asymmetrical design.

I think I lied. I need symmetry... when I am asymmetrical it drives me crazy XD

My room mate and I have agreed that we would love to wallpaper our living room in this were it possible.
I love how the flowers are blooming the skulls, and your take on the organic aspect you had to include.
It makes death seem beautiful, which to me, it is in a way. Life would not hold near as much meaning if it never ended.
