Practice in design, toning, and anatomy (TOTAL FAIL!).
Photoshop has a filter that does half-tone patterns, so that was a big help.I am slowly getting around to designing the other characters in my ATLA AU: After School Chaos (for those of you who have been wondering what in the name of Link these blatant disregard of all things sane have been about).
So far, Katara, Zuko, Jet, Suki, Mai, and Ty Lee's character designs are pretty much set.

i like mai in this i wish they wouldve worked on her a little bit more. she's just not right for zuko

I think she and Zuko fit perfectly, both are dark and bottle up their true emotions but let them out everyone once in a while.

great pic, both look beautiful especially mai, but that's a fact. really i don't get why (most) zutarians say she is ugly/manly, just because katara can't come close?

Well, Katara is more conventionally cute. I think Mai will probably grow up into a very elegant-looking woman.

Mai might just be my favorite character in the series. Of course, only watching the second time through. haha i didnt like her in the first till they left the boiling rock. great job with her!!!
