I was trying a different composition style with this shot. What do you guys think?

That is so cute!! Like this shot, the depth of field is perfect and I like that you leave the space at the bottom, it shows the space that the bird is looking into. It actually looks like it's posing for you. I'm always amazed at how sharp your nature shots are. A steady hand, good tripod and patience I'm guessing?

That and fast, high quality glass. Glass is far more important than the camera body.

I don't usually use tripods for wildlife work and shoot it hand held 95% of the time. This shot however was taken on my new gitzo tripod and head. It was a 'breaking in' day for the new kit.

Ah just a new tripod and head lol. Long time coming. My trust manfrotto setup has taken so much beating in the 4 years i've had it. Stalk water damaged, dropped numerous times, parts replaced. still sturdy as hell but will now be my dedicated landscaping tripod

Not sure what to think compositionally, I wouldnt say that it didnt work though. It's more than a fine shot
