Description
This shot demonstrates what patience can achieve. I was watching this guy for a long time whilst I was shooting some other birds.I started to shoot this fella in a bush and then low and behold, he flew and landed on the post 3 metews in front of me!
I had to reel the zoom in as I was shooting with my 200-400mm + 1.4tc!
I love the way his chest is caught in the breeze in this piece.
Enjoy

The nikon 200-400mm f4 costs around £4000. Its a pro spec lens.
You can get cheaper / slower lenses like a nikon 70-300mm f5.6 for around £300 - it depends on how serious you want to go about it and how often you'll use it. Fast pro glass is expensive!

yes of course... i have to go with something cheap since i'm just 17 and have no income...i just get 1000 swedish crowns, wich is like 100£ a month. i'm looking for some kind of job right now. think i gonna buy a canon lens though, since i've got a canon camera

well duh lol.
The canon 100-400mm f5.6l is a good lens. I think its around £1000. You could also go for a 70-200 or somthing in that range - it depends on how long a zoom you want

its not just the focal length - its the speed of the lens (i.e. the maximum apperture).
an f2.8 400mm will cost you around £5k, where as a 400mm f5.6 will cost around £1k

Talk about great clear photography! That bird looks so soft, I'd love to just hold it and pet it.

Brilliant shot, can't you just set up bird feeders and perches in your garden and wait for them to come to you? That way you can set it up so you won't get shadows across the bird and you can make the shot look more natural, you may not be able to get this awesome background colour though.

We do have feeders at home but 1. background distraction is too great. 2. I don't like aiming to bait my shots - I prefer them wild and natural as possible. this fella wasn't actually feeding from any of the feeders, he was just in the background as it were. I will do baited stuff if its for somthing worthwhile (buzzards or raptors etc, but not for garden birds).
