Lara never heard the door open behind her. Her eyes caught sight of the stranger’s reflection in the glass window in front of her. All she saw was a black jacket draped over broad shoulders, hints of dark hair, and a metal disc peeking out from beneath the jacket—

Wait. Metal disc?

“No.” Lara’s voice was soft as her lips parted in shock as the stranger moved into her line of sight. A shiver ran up the length of her spine as familiar, intense blue eyes gazed back at her.

“I’d hoped you’d died.” Kurtis flinched inwardly at her bitter tone; clearly she hadn’t forgotten how he’d left her to wake, naked and alone, that morning three years ago. What she didn’t know was why he’d had to do it.

“Lara, you don’t understand—”

“I understand enough, Kurtis, and that’s more than enough for me.” She holstered her weapons and made to push past him when he caught her wrist and pressed his body against hers, forcing her against the glass window. Struggling, Lara drew her other hand back to punch him, but he pinned that one against the glass as well, twining his fingers through hers.

“You don’t understand.” Her struggles subsided, body still tense, but relaxing somewhat in his hold.

“What don’t I understand, Kurtis? I think you made it pretty clear when you left, taking that bloody Frisbee with y—” His lips touched hers then, and it suddenly seemed like she breathed for the first time in three years. She inhaled and he pressed closer, willing her to understand. It seemed like she didn’t have to. He’d come back.

It almost felt like he’d never left.

I came so close to making this the start of a fanfic I’ve been throwing around in my head. In the end, I didn’t. I’m still trying to figure out how I’m supposed to get into the Strahov without getting punched full of lead holes, so any fanfic ideas I’ve got for this couple is going to wait.

Edit: I think it's time for me to start learning how to do reflections and better Gimp manip. My pictures look shabby compared to the real masterpieces on deviantart.

Edit 9/29/11: So, you know how I said I'd learn how to do reflections & better Gimp manipulation? Wellll, I did it~~ Took me an hour and a half to get the basics of mirroring (and posing that mirror), and another 2 hours to manipulate the layers and image afterward. Hope this is better than the original.
