Description
All I can say is, homeless in Chicago winter is not something I feel good about. This guy was nice enough to let me take his photo, so I gave him some spare change I had. Just hearing the sheer desperation in his voice was a bit heartbreaking. Shame really, mine was all he had in his cup aside from maybe two pennies. Sadly, the problem is getting worse too...Related content

Go for it. The more exposure things like this gets, the better it is for all of us I feel. Who knows, maybe it'll inspire some to actually do something meaningful about it, eh?

perhaps, but then again you have to question the likely hood with attitudes as they are.
I often get asked for change but I rarely trust around here that the moment wont go to drugs unfortunately, if I do come across osmeone i believe to be genuine and i have the money spare i allways try and give a little however

It really is a terrible thing, isn't it? I've always felt bad that I couldn't help out any of the homeless people I see. The few times that I had change and that I wasn't with mom, I'd hand it to them. I just hope they use it honestly for something they need, like food. I've heard all too many times of that money going toward cigarettes and alcohol. This issue really needs to be cleared up, but, like everyone else, basically, I'm at a loss for ideas. All we can hope is that our minute efforts make a difference.

I think in those sorts of situations you can tell very easily who is being honest and who is just putting something on - a true person in trouble is a very distinctive thing.

There's truth in that. I hope that most of the people asking for help really do need it, though.

It really does. I can still hear his voice trembling with the cold out of not having anything at all aside from his coat and his sign.

It's too bad that we can't do much for them

Well, we can - the problem lies deeply rooted in people's attitudes, though.

I always feel guilty when I pass people on the streets who look like they really need the money. There are other times I see people, and they just look like people who could honestly go somewhere and get help, but they'd rather just beg.
It's just a dead end cycle. People forget about them, or they forget how to help themselves.
Sigh.
Good photo, though, Ben.

:C It's so upsetting seeing that...
All the homeless around where I live are fakes. lol
Seriously, they get up off the floor, walk over to their bmw and drive off.
It's sickening.

What makes it sadder is the fact that if you have a BMW, surely you're capable of doing something better than your time than scrounging for pocket change, unlike these guys...

It is sad, and winters over there are fucking cold.
What gets me about this photo is the girl in the background, I can see his face but I can see hers. Really creepy.
