Description

This is in no way a "new piece", but that's fine by me.

This is a redo of [link] , the way that she SHOULD have looked. I have never been happy with that one, and knew it would eventually be redone.

Since I've had a bit of trouble with painting in general lately, I figured there's no time like the present.

This is SO much closer to how it was in my head, and how the sketch came out.

Watered down acrylics on wood.

I've been looking for the perfect picture of Hathor to hang by my vanity, and this is PERFECT! I love your style and design of her face - and the inclusion of the blush-brush! Would it be ok with you if I printed of a high-res copy and framed it to hang?

Well. I wish I could get money for it. But I can't. And I can't stop you from printing it, so... YES! You can go for it. I really, really appreciate you asking, though. It's very considerate of you. So, please, do! I am glad you like it. If you want to see another cool one of Hathor, try agaric.deviantart.com 's gallery. She probably wouldn't want you to print that one, though, because she makes her living doing art.

I think this is a great take on the goddess! The value you use gives it great depth. I'm really impressed with how well you pulled off the position of the hand-it's really tough to make that look good and you did so brilliantly!

I reeeallly love this. The work is well done, and I like how you designed her, using the various elements she's associated with (cute little headband headdress..).

The face is wonderful, and reminds me of a more modern take on the stylized art of the ancient Egyptians.

I'm sure it'll work out heh. Gotta love art block and a general lack of motivation to do anything art related u__u

How are you, anyway?

It'll work out, but not as fast as I want it to, you know? It's SO FRUSTRATING.

I'm like, "give me ideas, people!"

Stuff.

A bit stressed, but infinitely better than I have been in ages.

Yeah, I understand. I was like that alllll year up until recently and I just wanted to beat my head into a wall and hope maybe it would fix something with my inspiration.

Stuff-ers.

Encouragement from friends, just trying to learn that art can be fun again, and also just being in a better mood than I have in years.

You know, I like both very much. The first, seems to me almost to have a traditional egyptian wall art feel about it, where as this one has more ethereal aspects breathed into it. Her eyes are also more alive here. I adore the softer colors and the softer feel. This is lovely!

NibbleKat In reply to shidonii [2009-11-03 20:47:14 +0000 UTC]

Yay! That's what I was going for-- something otherworldly, as opposed to just... an Egyptian female.

Thank you so much.

OOOOOH. Right off the bat I could see the difference in her expression and the stylization of her face which looks much more serene and content than the first Hathor felt to me. I like the softer, more feminine palette as well, it really drives home the hearth and motherhood goddess aspect.

Finally, the only thing I thought I liked better in the original is the Hieroglyphics behind her, even if they weren't "real" hieroglyphs, they gave the image more of a grounding, imo.

I still love the picture, much improved take on that awkward hand pose as well.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NibbleKat In reply to evafortuna [2009-11-03 20:46:42 +0000 UTC]

Heh. I copied most of those hieroglyphics from a picture, so they were semi-real, I guess. I can see how that would have given it a bit more of a grounded feel... that makes sense. I just... somehow didn't want to do them again. Maybe not a better idea, but I like it. ^_^

And yeah! The first one just wasn't HER. Not to me. So I'm glad that serenity came across to you, too!... and hahahahah. Yeah. HAD to fix that hand problem. Argh.

Thank you!
