Description
She was wandering in the corridors of Tipoca City, followed by one of the locals when she suddenly froze in front of a great window. Behind the glass, there was a little boy, a clone, alone. He was sitting on the floor, barely playing with the two toys Kaminoans agreed to give him. Half of his hair has been shaved to put a pad on his tiny skull and, as he has rolled up a sleeve of his sweatshirt and his trooser, she saw that he has many bruises and scratches all over his skin. He looked so sad that Shaak Ti felt her heart clenching.
- Why is he all alone? she asked, puzzled.
All his brothers were living in pack, of different ages sometimes. Seeing one of them isolated that way was pretty strange.
- Oh, it is because he is hyperactive, the cloner answered, her grey face frowning with disgust. He only sleeps four hours at night and wakes up the other ones to play with them when he is bored. We put him there every night so he disturbs no one.
The Jedi watched closely at the place they chose for the boy. There was actually a bed, a small lamp and a pouf, but that was all he has. His environment was just made of white walls, grey flour and ceiling, and those two toys - a ball and a cube. It was no more than a jail and Shaak Ti understood why he wasn’t smiling. How he was supposed to sleep in this kind of room?
- Can I?
The Kaminoan nodded and the Togruta entered slowly into the bedroom. The amber gaze immediately stared at her, fascinated. The boy was standing up in the middle of the place, watching her with a curious and concerned look at the same time.
- Hello. My name is Shaak Ti.
- I’m Hardcase!
He finally smiled, proudly, thrilled to meet a new friendly face.
- Hardcase, you said?
- That’s the way the long-necks name me.
The warrior tried not to be too suprised by this answer. Kaminoans always called the clones by their numbers, no matter what. She never expected them to give a name to one of their creatures some day, but it seemed that this one was so exceptional that they had to. And what name it was. A bad joke for the scientist maybe but the clone obviously appreciated it.
- What are you?
The child was not afraid anymore, his curiosity supplanting his fear of the unknown.
- I’m a Jedi.
- Of course, you are. You’ve got a lightsaber.
Shaak Ti look at her waist in a weird reflex and saw the long cylinder of metal hooked on her belt. He has a good eye, she thought with a smile.
- I’m a Togruta, she revealed getting a little bit closer of his small inquisitor.
- Can I touch?
His eyes were focused on her lekkus and she almost saw the flow of questions passing by his brain. She crouched and grabbed one of them before presenting it to the futur soldier. He jumped to erase the distance between the two of them and started to squeeze the lekku between his tiny fingers.
- Do you feel it?
- Yes, I do.
- Oh. I must not do that so.
He gave her lekku back and stood in front of her, his hands behind his back, looking at her intensely. He tried so much to control his actions that she could see his jaws tighting up.
- Do you want to hear some Jedis stories?
- YES! he shouted happily like he was expecting that moment for ever.
The smile of Shaak Ti stretched out. She then took his little hand in her own and brought him to the pouf to sit on a comfy place. The boy rolled up naturally into her arm, his head on her shoulder. She started to talk about an old mission on a far away planet, describing the world and the peoples who were living up there, spending time on details she didn’t pay much attention at this moment, hoping the boy to get asleep quickly. But he wasn’t. His eyes were fiercely wide opened an hour later and she started to wonder if she has taken the right decision.
But her soft voice finally made its effect and Hardcase’s eyelids closed more and more minutes passing. He struggled for a long time but half an hour later, he was deeply sleeping along her chest. An heartwarming feeling invested her body by looking at his peaceful face. At least, she knew that he would spent a beautiful night this time.

Actually, I did this drawing to watch if this paper can handle watercolour. And the answer is: not too much…
It’s my first try at drawing Shaak Ti! I know that her lekku were supposed to be longer (but I needed them to be shorter so as Hardcase can catch them in his tiny hand).
