True, I find myself getting stuck into the details too early and end up taking ages, I tend to put the cart before the horse some times.

use big brushes That's what often helps me But I too can get stuck on details, particularly with character speedpaints

I'd probably have to use a roller, but I'll give your advice a go and see what happens, I do enjoy getting stuck in to the details.
