How did you get those brushes?
I have photoshop CS2 and I found some brushes that are similar, but not exactly the same. Is that ok? I'm not sure...

Do whatever works! This is more or less guidelines. It works a lot better if you just apply the knowledge rather than try to copy it.

Ok, I'll try that. I'm kinda new to drawing on a computer with a tablet so I wasn't sure if the result would be ok. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this tutorial, it really helped me a lot (Even if I still have a lot of work to do until I get to your level).

For some reason, when I try to use luminosity, the color is way too strong and bright, where as yours blends better. Is something wrong with my brush settings, or is it perhaps I'm pressing down too hard on my tablet?

So I gave the tutorial a shot, and it turned out alright, I think.

Also, I used a combination of SAI and photoshop for this. Because I found out today that they were cross compatible and I was absolutely delighted because I feared I would alienate myself from SAI just not being able to use the line tool (I can't ink with a tablet, I'm terrible at it ._.)

Warning: I'm still getting used to it, and I use a different program so it took me a while to figure out. And don't pay attention to the body, I'm not proud of it at all ;-;
Although it's not as good as you, am I getting there?

Do you happen to have a screenshot of your brush settings? Mine always seem to look so pixelated, even though I use a tablet, any tips?

Well what resolution do you work on?

Serendipitiesfate In reply to nightcreepx [2013-06-01 14:50:03 +0000 UTC]
it depends really per drawing, sometimes 2000x3000, sometimes 5000x3000. but never below the 2ks really,

Hmmm that's odd that it's getting pixelated then. Usually people get that problem when they work really small.

Can you help me a little? Can't find\make rough-round brush in my SAI. Where can I get it?

nightcreepx In reply to BurnOut42 [2013-04-23 10:27:23 +0000 UTC]
For presets you should have a brush called Middle_Round and that will suffice.

Guess I'm using wrong version or something, don't have this one either...
Damn, I really wanted to try your technique "by the book" and now have to improvise again to save the drawing. Thanks anyway Amanda. I suppose there is a place only for one pony drawing like you)

you may be looking in the wrong place. Are you looking under the brush shape in the settings?
The default would say "(simple circle)"

BurnOut42 In reply to nightcreepx [2013-04-25 20:00:32 +0000 UTC]
Nope, I was looking in the right place. I had wrong version indeed. A friend of mine gave me her version(yay for piracy) and brushes were found) Btw, finished it 2 days before [link] .
Still looks kinda crappy, but at least it was fun to try which is most important^_^

what colors are you using after the base colors? darker color for shadows and lighter for highlights? or do you use black with varying opacities?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
nightcreepx In reply to Ephemurai [2013-04-22 15:39:29 +0000 UTC]
For my darkest shadows I use a deeper red, and for my highlights I use a golden color. For this in particular I mean it depends on what color you're working with!

or did you made it yourself?

Its custom. If you have the presets Middle_Round is basically the same.

Still got a question though. Do you use opacity on airbrushes?
