Description Blend file with the material included in the DOWNLOAD.

Metal material that uses generated texture mapping method (no UV's needed). It's dependent on topology to correctly find the edges.

I used a slightly edited version of this material for all the renders in the thumbnail. And use it all the time in my work.

Tried to make the material as user friendly as i can. If you like node spaghetti... please open the ''Main Material" node group.

You need to add the textures inside the ''Main Material" node group.

Hope this is helpful!

Im not allowed to provide the textures with the blend file. Use the links below to download the textures. (you r free to pick the one's you like)

Rust texture - www.textures.com/download/rust… - image 2 medium
Grundge texture - www.textures.com/download/grun… - image 6 medium (i used large, but it isn't available for free any more )
Scratches -  www.textures.com/download/meta… - image 1 medium (i used large, but it isn't available for free any more )

Textures in the material r fom www.textures.com/  < awesome texture site!!!
Tools: Blender 3D(Cycles render engine), Photoshop for compositing.

Thank you very much for sharing your materials!
I don't have the large size textures but the medium ones (like TexturesCom_MetalBare0099_1_M.jpg) and I wonder if this makes a visible difference and if I have to adjust some parameters.

My pleasure and thank you for using it!
Medium is ok as well, and you dont need to adjust anything. It should work just fine.
Only one thing, you need a certain amount of geometry for the edges to work properly, it wont work on to low poly.
If you need anything else, feel free to ask.

I referred to the texture filenames specified in the Nodes, but the URLs here don't point to a specific file and the only way I can see to reveal the filename on textures.com  is to click the download button, which uses your credits even if you cancel out of it. It might be better to refer to them as "Image 3, large option"  I suspect that even if you don't grab the exact file that you used in the material it won't make a huge difference, but I was hoping to sync them up properly.

That said, it's a great looking material. I don't know how people come up with this stuff, it's amazing.  Thanks much!

I added the description after the textures links. Sadly some sizes r no longer available for free.

Thank you! Yes your totally rite! But my lazy side got the better of me... overall the textures r all quite similar so it dosn't matter to much (pick the one you like the most). But as you sad it would have made the process faster and more streamlined.

I really like this how did you do the red fire on the dragon? I am currently trying to make a hellhound Mech and would love to use these textures on some of the parts

To save on render time i added them in photoshop using the screen blending mode.

Here's the link to the flames that i used - www.textures.com/browse/flames…

Weren't those helmets made with substaince painter? I think I saw them before...

Only the one that i cropped out was textured with Substaince. That's why i took it out.

So all the others use this material? How were that black spots made?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nikola3D In reply to Olotocolo [2016-06-01 18:13:54 +0000 UTC]

Yes, all of the metal object use this version of the material. Depending on the object your using it you'l gona need to change the settings a bit. The colour ramp is the main controller in the material. The dirt and the black parts, you get everywhere there is an indentation. In the Geometry node you got the Pointiness output, thats the thing that finds the spots for dirt (dark spots).

Tank YOU for sharing this
I would like some simplified shematic how it was made. I can eventually figur it out form all that spaghetti but it would be easier having general concept :/
