i didn't mean to offend. i know that it is a horrid disease that shouldn't be taken lightly. for that statement about eating a piece of chocolate cake was just trying to be lighthearted on a depressing and deep topic. maybe it was the wrong time and place. if so i do apologize. i may not have had this disease but i can only imagine the hardships one must face to overcome an eating disorder (mine is i eat too much). my last comment was not a solution but a joke( and in retrospect a bad and untactful one at that)
again i appologize

You know what's even sadder than this poor boy? All the people who will comment on this and actually think this body type is attractive. The media has not only warped our expectations of ourselves, but our expectations of others too. One of me roomates, who I love dearly, has recently been going to the gym a lot more because her boyfriend is pressuring her to be thinner, although she's at a healthy weight. She's somewhat guilty of it too, because God forbid she's seen with a guy who doesn't look like he pops roids for breakfast. So many people don't realise what a natural human body is meant to look like, because all we see are tummy tucks, fake tits, and overly tanned juice heads. Thank you for posting this picture, and showing us all that those models aren't nearly as gorgeous underneath all the clothes and makeup. Also, I hope the model in this photo gets some proper help. No one should have to endure all that pain in order to feel happy with themselves.

Thank you for this. I agree with you, to 100%. It is such a sad thing. But no worries. This is me, but I am fine. I stretched my photo to get that kind of ... thin-ness(?). Actually, I am perfect weight.

Creative idea! That actually makes another good point too. A lot of models aren't even that thin, they're just photoshopped beyond belief. So apparently even the models everyone strives to look like aren't good enough!

I am thin. Very thin. I am 6.2" and weigh 114 pounds, never in my live crossed 120 pounds. I have tried to read time and again on the internet and all I can find are links to losing weight.
Even all the bmi calculator apps on itunes and android, they completely ignore people who need to gain weight.
I have tried so many things to put on weight and and I will keep trying. This picture is.. I think, healthier than I am!
I'ts painful, at best, to see this pic for me. Not because it reflects me, but because he's healthier, and there isn't much I can do about it!

I apologize if I made it sound like I was hating on thin people. People come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes, and not everyone's natural body type is healthy. Actually, a good friend of mine has a similar problem. She eats a normal diet, is about 5'4, and never broke 100lbs. I feel like I have a friend for every situaton. XD
Society in general seems to have an imbalance with views on weight. There's been a big rise in trying to eat healthy, but then we judge people who seem to look unhealthy. We assume thin people are anorexic or shallow, and we assume heavy people are lazy and eat junk. But a lot of other factors go into body weight, such as genetics, metabolism, and certain diseases.
Society is putting a lot of stress on people to lose weight, since the majority of weight issues (at least in the US) is overweight. But I think the other side of the scale has been ignored. No one seems concerned with gaining weight, since thin, even dangerously thin, is considered attractive, even if it's unhealthy. But then there's also those who hate on thin people and assume they have eating disorders, even if it's something out of their control. It's kind of all hypocritical I guess.
I'd maybe suggest talking to a doctor or dietitian about your problem. They're more concerned with health than how people look, so you can get some good unbiased advice from them. But it sounds like you probably already tried that. In the end, be proud of yourself, and be proud of the fact that you're trying to do something good for yourself. I apologize again if I sounded like a jerk. No one should have to strive to look like something that is unobtainable to them. Everyone, no matter what they look like, is still beautiful in someone's eyes. I know I kinda sound like a sappy hippie, but we all need to learn to love ourselves for who we are.

No! You did not offend me at all, I was just appalled at the comments on the page and how most of it were about how obese people were the centre of the universe.
Anyway, that was a very powerful picture, thanks for sharing

Hauntingly..."beautiful".
It's beautiful because of the concept you were trying to portray...not saying that a body that thin is beautiful but...yes.
This is stark and haunting.

not trying to be offensive, but to be honest, this is a piece against anorexia. The model is supposed to be too thin. Saying "Tell the model to try stick his hand under and up his ribs" is like .. the worst thing to say. It's like "If he can't do that, he is still not thin enough to me." just saying.

I'm kinda bothered by the people who are saying they find this anorexic look attractive on males... I mean i can understand skinny/slender, but anorexic? Come on people you're ignoring the message.
I mean this is a beautiful photo, yes, and fulfills its purpose well. Good job!

It is sad that people can do this to themselves, but, yes, people need to be more aware of it. And it is also good for people to be aware that it isn't just women who starve themselves for the sake of being thin. You rarely ever hear of males doing it, or see photography or news stories about it. Only time anyone has talked about men reducing their body weight to scary levels has been about actors who had to take drastic measures to portray a character accurately (on a physical level -- esp. if they are portraying a real-life individual).
But, eep, honestly...this photograph certainly gives me a good image of what one of my original characters look like... (He's not anorexic, just...scary-thin for other health reasons) Would it be wrong of me to use this Deviation for future drawing reference...? I can't quite draw super-thin bodies very well because I haven't had any good reference. (Not to mention another character of mine gets this thin from mistreatment and starvation in a camp...)
But, back to seriousness: The use of black-and-white film makes it so stark and more unsettling, but that's certainly a good thing. And it does not portray anorexia in a positive light (another thing I think using black-and-white helps to achieve).
Congrats on the DD, stranger.
(And, yes, I rarely ever comment on DDs, so...this is a good thing!)

I have a very loving relationship with food. I don't know how people can get into a state where they just can't eat. It's very sad, and I believe a lot of it has to do with societies pressures on how skinny everyone should be. People are supposed to have a little bit of fat. It's what makes us healthy. Amazing photo. Congrats on the DD!

Well it's not only pressure and image that cause anorexia; not all people do it by choice.
I have a friend who has a problem with his throat, so he can't swallow properly, now there are things doctors can do to help people with these problems, but because he has the ability to eat even if it is in small amounts they won't do anything.
But where he has had so many reoccuring episodes while eating it has mentally scarred him into fearing food, because of this he is tiny. He's 18 years old and he's the healthy weight of a 12 year old girl...yet the doctors just nod and smile and say it's okay?
There are many things that lead to anorexia...it gets to me a lot when I hear people say it's the persons choice, they just want to fit in...they don't realise what it's like to look at and talk to a person who is absolutely terrified of food and no one, not even doctors will help them
