The Nightmare and Her Dream
Woe, dusky mare,
We waste and while away
Each twilight with such drear,
Waiting . . .
Wan, sullen steed,
We have trod all night.
Both barebacked, burning,
Spurred by fear, despair . . .
Wait . . .
Whoa, nightmare,
Dawn betides.
We must part in arrears.
So temper your warm shoes
In frore respite.
We wend again tonight!

Painting and poem inspired by folklore, D&D, and my troubles with sleep.

Great piece! Love the musculature and the head especially. Very expressive eyes on her

I tried to make her somewhat realistic, she's a composite of a few references.
I forgot I attached a poem to this. I actually like both (picture and literature) much better than before.
Thanks for reminding me of this.

Love the snowy feel, the way you drew the horse, the flowers emerging, the snow.. The snow looks so good! Love the fire that seems to burn inside the horse

Thanks, I reworked the snow almost as much as the horse.

Unless you do them all the time I think horses are very hard.
This is different for you, it came out great!

Thanks, I've been sketching and studying their anatomy lately.
The trickiest part is their hind legs from any perspective but a side view.
The foreshortened view in this painting was kind of weird to paint.

The music is..i am speechles thanks for posting it. Beautiful painting also, i like how the horses eye/nose/paws are the same colour as the flowers..they seem connected.

It's one of those songs I wish I had written.
Although it's not in my poem, I imagined her warm breath on the ground would make these flowers sprout.
Which is handy when she's hungry. I touched the painting up to make this a little more apparent.

It is beautiful, how she is fragile and strong..she's very skinny, the ribs and her bony knees..i imagine it does come in handy.

A few traces of fire remain melting the snow, but for a moment, the animal rests and peace settles...
Great music, thanks.

Very cool, I love the blurry haze of the snow contrasted with the dark brooding nature of the mare

It looks gentle, almost reassuring/soothing for a nightmare, the snow flakes make their own contribution to it.
I like the word games you included and the lyrics are fine too, very well done.

Yeah, I wondered if she looked too serene for a nightmare, but I guess she's off the clock so she can relax.
The snow was actually the hardest part to paint, glad you noticed. The titles were flip-flopped at first, they make more sense this way. Words are fun to play with, I thought of them as lyrics too.

I like that the horse is not overdone, but is subtle, although you can picture him riding all night.
You made me look up the definition of a couple of words - thank you!
I like the poem, it gives you a strong image to contemplate.

I tried to keep it all a bit subtle despite the black and white contrast.
I looked up a few words too, glad you like it.

Thank you, I'm quite happy with the orange and her peaceful face. It almost matches the flowers.
