Nimaru — The Problem With Being A Brony

Description This is the first version:

Many people talked about the text being too small and I thought it was pretty crowded and scattered (though I still think it was a good first attempt). So to make a better poster, I condensed the crap out of it, both in text and in images to make essentially the same points but with less space, more pictures, and fewer words. I also uploaded a MUCH larger version so you guys can print your own though I DO have it available as prints over at Redbubble:

Buy it here if you like it
POSTER @ REDBUBBLE: [link]

Anyway, I think it turned out really well so what do you think?

EDIT: Cheeseheads are Green Bay Packers fans (football) and the Blue Army are fans of Aerosmith

EDIT2: A lot of people today have commented that they can't believe that anyone would consider KH girly, but it's been more than a decade since it came out so many people forgot or were too young to remember. It's a "Disney Princess" game that uses the word "heart" a lot and has touchy feely "I LOVE YOU MAN" bromance between the main characters. Obviously it's awesome, but I've seen guys who couldn't get past that and wouldn't play the game.

Indeed, it's kinda silly to say girls can't enjoy that "boy" stuff either. I know lots of girls who like that stuff even when I was little... Heck my sister loves Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, (especially the first movie) and we would play with my TMNT action figures along with her "My Little Pony" toys (like we'd have them protecting the ponies from the bad guys, or something who wanted to kidnap them, and use their magic for evil) lol so I guess I've been a "brony" longer then I realize in a way.

Ironically, I actually read a study that said a vast majority of gamers are actually female. So it's really stupid for some to assume girls can't be "gamers," and such. Heck when I play "Dr. Mario Online RX" on my Wii, whenever I meet a random girl opponent, (judging from her Mii avatar) I know I'm going to get my butt-kicked. (Women are VERY awesome at Dr. Mario.)
I think the thing is most of them are less outspoken about gaming, then dudes are. Overall, I've known lots of girls/women who love gaming.
(My sister when we were kids always borrowed my Gameboy alot to play Tetris, Yoshi, or Donkey Kong'94.)

It's pretty "backwords-sexist" in a way to say women are anti-feminist, stereotypical, or less of a "strong-woman" for liking "girly/feminine" things.
I knew a gal who caught crap from so-called feminists, because she liked wearing dresses, and cooking for her boyfriend. (Apparently that makes her "not a strong woman," and crap. Ironically, she's very smart, and very strong-willed if you ask me.)
So yeah, it's like you can't win either way in some situations.

this is a result of our culture conflating "masculine" with "good" and "feminine" with "bad". It never ceases to amuse me how homoerotic popular culture is--

They want their Men to be MANLY,
and they want their Women to be MANLY!

Because nothing is more awesome than manly things gettin' it on with other manly things, apparently XD

The hypocrisy is so thick you could cut it with a knife--but only if by 'knife' you mean hacksaw.

Beau-Skunk In reply to Cyclone-Dusk [2013-05-22 03:26:07 +0000 UTC]

Wasn't expecting to get so many responces for this. Guess I struck a chord with people.
But yeah, society is getting to hung-up on masculine things, especially if some are trying to erase all "femininity." I recall Lauren Faust said she was hoping with this show she could show that something "girly" wasn't necessarily "bad," and such.
Seems to of worked somewhat, sense I hear fathers are actually enjoying watching the show with their daughters.

Nothing wrong with being masculine, or manly, but a "true manly man" would not be afraid to have a tea party with little plastic pink cups with his daughter.

Faust made this show to erase that divide. I thin that every brony is a testament to her work and its success.

Are people seriously complaining that you use Kingdom Hearts as a girly example?
Kingdom Hearts for all it's awesomeness is also corny as you can get. Hey here is drinking game we all can play every time they talk about feelings/heart/friends/corny stuff, take a drink!

Nimaru In reply to Sonic-chaos [2013-05-21 16:22:40 +0000 UTC]

Exactly! I predictably took a lot of heat for using KH as an example, but you hit the nail right on the head. It's a bromance touchy-feeling game featuring DISNEY PRINCESSES. No one believes it now, but there really were some issues with people playing the game when it first came out.

Nice! all of this reminds me of what my dad said to me, "Why are you watching this? This is for girls" Which is weird cause i'm a girl.. lol jk
no actually, he just likes to make fun of me for watching cartoon, despite him being a Woody woodpecker, asterix and obelix and Tintin fan

My problems being brony?
Sleep,
Sleepless everynight,
everyday,
I can even see myself now in third person mode,
Actually, in my kind of town, i never have problems with anti-bronies: they don't even care!! Next things after my class known me being brory, they just"Meh, so what?". Then i turned to my best friends:"Yeah, we watched MLP. It was fine. Why u so obsessive like that? Bronies? Fandom? Sure, their music were good, their art were nice, but nah, waste of time caring for ponies or such. Oh yeah, if you're brony, notify me when they release any good songs then. Im out"
When my parents saw me watching ponies, they responded:"Are you watching porn and cover it up with this cartoon?"

Not sure how to deal with them.
So now i neither have brony-friends nor haters. Kinda a pain.

Still, sleep is my main problem, which i should have controlled since school's semester. Gonna get worse this summer, i known.
P/s:Im an Asian, specifically Vietnamese, in case for your curiousity. And i dislike Twilight. Twilight Saga, it is.

I love every piece of it and should be spread about.
I'm sure a large amount of people are thanking you right now! ^_^

Nimaru In reply to Leaferson [2013-05-21 16:08:39 +0000 UTC]

I'm happy if people find it useful. The goal was always in having a great resource for myself, but especially for others who aren't as impervious to the hateful and hurtful comments and opinions as I am.

Farelle In reply to ??? [2013-05-21 07:09:14 +0000 UTC]

agree so much with it I wonder when people start to notice, that after women got discriminate against for soooo long, that their "equal rights stuff" now discriminates men lol (and I'm a woman and think so....)

also adults get discriminated when they are keeping parts of the child in them (cant be taken serious, childish etc.)

and then there is the stuff about brony fandom I will never get....O.o every damn fandom out there has most likely more "hardcore" fans XD but bronies are considered "awkward"? what the heck? it's just a damn show, like any other too, just that this is one of those that went viral and were pretty much known before the new series started...

something is really off with this world

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nimaru In reply to Farelle [2013-05-21 16:03:26 +0000 UTC]

I really think it's a lot about homophobia. People think that if you're not Mr. Macho Skullcrusher McManlyman, there must be something wrong with you. Guys who watched "girl's anime" have had this problem before, but not as visibly (since the Internet didn't exists/wasn't as big back then).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Farelle In reply to Nimaru [2013-05-21 23:17:34 +0000 UTC]

actually when men watched Sailor Moon it wasnt considered thaaaaaat bad, probably because girls had long legs and so were just attractive and so understandable to watch that

ifwe would go that way, then actual animes and stuff are really worse

I'm not a brony, nor am I really an MLP fan, but I can't help but appreciate this since it really covers pretty much every fandom out there and addresses the public distain towards most fandoms, despite other, more insane ones (Sports especially) that people tend to dismiss as totally acceptable. Something I've noticed for years and yet rarely seems to be merited.

Great job!

I honestly think this was a stupid poster and was a waste of time to bother making. Really? Kingdom Hearts, a hard-a** game that has a male lead save a female character while using Donald and Goofy as teammates is girly? You call Camouflage a costume? And why is Bugs Bunny considered a kids cartoon? Have you even seen the ones before the Looney Tunes Show? Honestly, how old are you, 13? Then this would all make sense.

GrandpaBen In reply to MarioDragon [2013-05-21 07:47:06 +0000 UTC]

Ok, if your really want that answers:
1#ecause some people would think it's girly, if they known yet the plot for Kingdom Hearts, and only judge the picture by background's color, unidentified relationship between characters..
2#: My local taxi drivers wear Camouflage pants all around the corners. Thus costume for Haloween's clearly legitable.
3#: Since it WAS a kids show, just like MLP. It just that all the kids who used to watch it has grown up to nowaday adults.
4#: (3#)
5#: This question just proved you're
