Spoiler/Update following the Finale:
So. Now we know who Amon is. O_O It was a GREAT episode.
I'm fully aware that this comic goes along with the idea of Amon's lie and is thus wrong. But I'm also pretty content with my comic because I feel that it still fits with the actual plot in that he had some kind of happy family at first (excepting his dad, of course, who led him to be evil). I was mainly in love with his little 'story' because of how tragic it was, and while the truth is a LOT different, it still kind of retains that quality. He did have an almost loving family after all. :'D
Hey, it looks like that "roaring stream" bit from his name might've been a hint to his bending! Maybe. Haha well I'm a sucker for hidden meanings.

This is supposed to be just a one-page comic to describe how he got his mask, but I couldn't resist making up the rest.
So the rest of the story goes that the next day Amon and his parents go to the fire festival and have a good time, but when they get home they are confronted by a pair of inebriated fire benders looking for trouble. The rowdier fire bender starts setting the family's property on fire, but the other fire bender wimps out and runs away. Amon's parents are hurt and caught in the fire. Amon tries to fight the man but is no match for the bender. He is severely burned and blacks out. He awakes to find the farm burned to the ground and his parents dead.
Thus begins Amon's hatred towards benders and the Equalist movement.
(I was going to give Amon a different name because I feel that it probably wasn't the one he had as a child, but it's easier with the name most people recognize, so I left it at that.)

As I was drawing this comic I got insanely interested in Amon. I even looked up the meaning of his name and I feel like these could be hints to things we don't know about him...
"Amon means 'the hidden one'. In early Egyptian mythology he was a god of the air, creativity and fertility. In Hebrew, the name Amon means secret; faithful; roaring stream."
Hidden One and Secret make sense, since he's so mysterious and he wears a mask. I was wondering if maybe the "roaring stream" and "god of air" meant Amon is a water bender or (though I think it's unlikely) an airbender.

I also stumbled across the name Amon on the internet in a verse in the bible, 2 Kings 21:19.
"Amon was 22 years old when he became king. His reign in Jerusalem lasted two years. ... He committed much wickedness in the Eternal's eyes just as his father, Manasseh, did. He walked the wicked path of his father, and he served and worshiped the same gods his father had served. ... Amon's servants plotted behind his back and murdered him in his own house. Then the people of the land slaughtered those who had plotted in secret against King Amon, and they gave the throne to Amon's son, Josiah."

I was pretty surprised after I read that, because both the Amon from Korra and the biblical Amon sounded similarly evil. But that's not all! I got curious about Amon's dad so I backtracked a little in the chapter, and get this!:
"He (Manasseh, the wicked king father of Amon) forced his son to go through the fire as a burnt offering."
O_o

But anyway, that's all speculation. I just wanted to give Amon a little backstory... because all villains were kids once, and usually not that bad. I feel bad for Amon because he had such a horrible experience. :(
