Description

Here's my last drawing which is part of Sonic's 30th Anniversary. This here is Infinite, the former captain of the Jackal Squad and the main antagonist of Sonic Forces, Sonic's first 3D title on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, and also one of the most overhyped games to date, and Infinite being an underwhelming villain.

Much like Zavok and the Deadly Six, Infinite's past is unclear other than that he's the captain of the Jackal Squad, a mercenary group raiding others for profit. In the Sonic Forces digital comic, "Rise of Infinite", Infinite and his squad are on their way to raid Dr. Eggman's base in Arsenal Pyramid to steal his devices for a bounty. Eggman had been studying the Phantom Ruby and began to produce an army of Egg Pawn replicas to fend off the Jackal Squad. As their captain and "ultimate mercenary" slashed his way through the Egg Pawns, he told the others to handle he robots while he moved in to kill Eggman. But as Infinite attempts to do so, his sword slashes the Phantom Ruby by accident, causing it to show him what he desired to do the most: a world in ruins, destroyed. Eggman, who also saw the illusion, took a liking to the jackal and offered to make him the leader of the Eggman Army so the both of them could accomplish their goals together, to which Infinite agreed.

Later, as shown in the Episode Shadow DLC, Infinite and the Jackal Squad were assigned by Eggman to guard his facility in Mystic Jungle. Until Shadow came to raid and destroy the facility. The squad attempted to stop Shadow, but to no avail. Infinite soon arrived to the scene and attempted to finish him as payback for beating his squad, but was caught off-guard with the black hedgehog's abilities and was beaten up. Shadow callously called Infinite weak, before leaving the area, making Infinite throw a hissy fit claiming he's not weak (Wow, such writing from Pontaff, isn't it?). Bitter about his defeat, Infinite hid his old identity as the ultimate mercenary, to the point where he wore a mask to hide his face, so he can become stronger. He then obtained the Phantom Ruby (which is the finalized one), which gave him limitless power. Soon after, Eggman fused both of the jackal and with his Phantom Ruby, so he could defeat Sonic and conquer the world.

Right after Infinite obtained his power, in the other comic: "Looming Shadow", he was dispatched by Eggman to deal with E-123 Omega, who obliterated all of the doctor's robots in his base. Infinite soon confronted the E-Series robot and defeated him. Shadow then arrived at the facility, found the defeated Omega and was greeted by Infinite. Shadow had no memory of meeting this jackal he encountered before, but Infinite told him his backstory and attempted to finish off Shadow by trapping him in a virtual reality. But the black hedgehog managed to break through it and despite Infinite's foiled trap, he is impressed with the new power he's possessed with, just so he can beat Sonic to a pulp (despite the fact he has nothing against him whatsoever).

In the real game, Eggman started his attack by sending out his robots to destroy the city. Sonic showed up and stopped the robots, saving the civillians (and Tails). As Sonic is about to fight Eggman, he is stopped by Infinite's illusions, which consist of Shadow, Zavok, Metal Sonic and Chaos, four of Sonic's past foes he's faced. Not long after, Infinite and his illusions successfully defeated Sonic, which led to Eggman capture the blue hedgehog. With Sonic taken hostage on the Death Egg, Eggman and Infinite conquered 99% of the world, with Eggman's army controlling all over the world, nobody couldn't stop them. Months have passed and Infinite wiped out a resistance group in the city, before turning to see the cowering Avatar who is only survivor left. The jackal taunted the Avatar and allowed him to flee, so he could hear him scream in terror.

6 months later, Infinite went to the Mystic Jungle to pick up Eggman's remaining Phantom Ruby prototypes, so they could be disposed of. There, he encountered Silver, who he decided to crush to send a message to the Resistance. Infinite soon defeated Silver, but he dropped a Phantom Ruby prototype, unaware of it. As Infinite was about to finish Silver off, he is stopped by Sonic, who had been broken out of prison. Infinite was surprised to see Sonic free from imprisonment, while the blue hedgehog tried to tell him what his secret is. Infinite refused to tell and knocked Sonic away to deal him. Despite the fact, Sonic put up a good fight, Infinite still beat him and left him (for what reason?)

Infinite then met up with Eggman in Green Hill and destroyed what seems to be the last Phantom Ruby prototype. As the two discuss, the jackal revealed to Eggman that he let Sonic go after fighting him, to which made Eggman irritated over this. Infinite then asked Eggman if their plan to wipe out the Resistance carried on as usual, which Eggman confirmed and the two savoured at the thought of their victory until Infinite left. Infinite then showed up at Metropolis, where the Resistance had been raiding it, Eggman ordered Infinite to use the Phantom Ruby's power to create gravity shifts and giant monstrous versions of himself. The jackal had put the Resistance through casualties until they withdraw. While watching the anarchy, Infinite wondered if the world would send him a challenge, until the Avatar who ran away from him months ago approached, now part of the Resistance. Infinite did not recognize the Rookie and sensed his fear and tried to intimidate him. Although, with the help of Sonic's words, the Avatar stood up and fought him. After defeating him, Infinite finally recognized the Avatar and attempted to kill him off with the cannons, but because the Avatar had the Phantom Ruby prototype wielded with him, they were immune to him. Infinite shocked at this, dismissed this and states that it will be two days before the Resistance will be wiped off, before departing.

Soon after, the Resistance destroyed the Phantom Rubies' power source onboard the Death Egg, angering Eggman to dispatch to Metropolis, along with Orbot, Cubot and Infinite. When the Resistance attacked the city again, Infinite appeared before Eggman when Sonic and Tails attempt to stop the doctor. Dr. Eggman ordered Infinite to open a portal to Null Space, which sucked both Sonic and the Avatar in it, supposedly trapping them forever.....only for them to get out 20 seconds later, which made it pointless. With Eggman angry and Infinite displeased about this, they went onwards to the Eggman Empire Fortress. The big day has arrived, and the Resistance has stormed the fortress. Infinite showed up with his army of replicas, while Eggman's army backed him up. Sonic and the Resistance (except Tails) fought off the illusions, but were blasted back off by Infinite and were about to finished off by him, but were saved by a repaired E-123 Omega, who shows up out of nowhere.

Irritated by this, Infinite initiated Eggman's endgame: using his Phantom Ruby to create a virtual sun to drop on the Resistance (and Eggman, critically speaking), which would blow them out. But as it was about to fall on them, it got canceled out by the Avatar and the prototype he was holding. Weakened from creating his sun, the jackal withdrew to the center of the fortress, where Sonic caught up to him. Thinking that he could still beat Sonic, Infinite engaged Sonic to a battle until his Phantom Ruby copy was fully recharged. As he was about to finish the blue hedgehog one final time, the Avatar stepped in to save the day and joined forces to stop Infinite. The two worked their way through and managed to defeat Infinite. As Infinite struggled to comprehend his power, Sonic told him that it was the power of friendship that beat him (which yes, sounds VERY cliche). Unable to control his powers anymore, the jackal suddenly disappeared as his copy pulled him towards the reactor....and that's it....we don't hear from him anymore. He could have been a better villain.
