What happens if an enemy gets up to her? I've heard that in one demo, she kicks him in the balls.

It does happen during your first encounter with enemies after Elizabeth joins you. After that, though, she mostly just takes cover during gunfights and throws you useful stuff every now and again.

I don't think anything happens, she'll interact with other characters when Booker isn't in combat but she'll just run and hide while you fight-while being the best companion ever with her constant supply of ammo/salt/health

The only game-lenght-escorting mission where the player is the escorted, and he has the guns.

I felt exactly the same thing: I hate escort missions with a passion, but the moment I realized that Elizabeth could handle herself, then I really got into it.

Yes! So very true. ^_^ Escort quests suck, but Elizabeth really is the best escort ever since she follows without problems, can't die, helps revive you, finds health, ammo, and salt in battle and money outside of it. Really, this is everything a support NPC /needs to be/, short of actually fighting back herself.

Ashley isn't that bad. She gets behind Leon when he aims, and if she can't, she'll duck. Really, the only thing you have to worry about with her is enemies catching her, and she can hide. And if Ashley gets caught in your explosive, really, the only one to blame is yourself.
