so.....this is it. flynn has finally revealed where his allegiance lies when it comes to the freedom fighters.
get ready archie-sonic/satam fans, cuz this is probably gonna piss you off like you wouldnt believe.

now when he says "defunct", i would assume he means "cancelled" or "ended", cuz all of the shows he mentioned have all ended and have not gotten new episodes since.
but my friend catchuptheduck said this to me in response: "Still doesnt make sense cause even if those shows are cancelled, theres some importance to them if the characters are still active in some form."
but then the original person called him out for the possibility of the

The only reason the Freedom Fighters were in Archie was because Archie Sonic was an adaptation of SatAM. This most certainly will not be.

Regardless, it felt exactly like a post-reboot issue. The promises of a "brand new start" were broken as soon as they announced the Forces continuation.
IDW is the post-post-reboot, just a simple character purge like the former.

What does a post-forces story exclude it from having a brand new start?
It doesn't have to start with an adaptation of "Sonic the Hedgehog" to be the start of a new story

The whole point of making a new start is to have a good soil to bring new people to the table, to create hooks - something the comic really needs. Readership. To make an actual valid use of that character purge.
All of this is defeated if the first issue turns out to be really hostile to non-Sonic fans. You need to know a lot of things, or else the person will feel lost and just see a bunch of boring action scenes - giving the feeling that the issue had 5 pages instead of 20.

A brand new series can't be that hard to follow. But then again, the only people who will be reading a Sonic comic nowadays are those who are already familiar with the series.

Exactly! Thatβs the problem with this comic run. Unlike the archie sonic (that was originally comedy) was pretty nice towards people who are looking into sonic series by reading the comics first.

There isn't a character purge. This isn't the same book. It's a different company--they just hired a bunch of the same people who made the Archie book
Who do you think this comic is made for? It's made for the kids who bought and enjoyed Forces. Who else would sEGA want to pander to? Classic fans get actual video games nowadays.

If that's really their demographic target (Forces' kid fans), the book is going to sell poorly again and we'll have possibly another abrupt cancellation.

How? The reboot was the result of Penders taking away his characters and Archie disavowing anything associated with him. This new series is an entirely different continuity.

That's what the reboot to the Archie comics was, and that was mainly because Sega relinquished the writers of creative control as they were then told to do what Sega told them without question. That's why the comic ended up being cancelled.

Sega needs to learn that being really restrictive is a very bad idea. :/ I hated the reboot for that reason.

Well it's also the reason the game franchise is dying and why the newer games have been so boring and repetitive, because Sega won't allow them.

Eventually they will, the problem is that Takeshi Iizuka keeps the franchise stuck in the same point permanently due to being far too conservative with the franchise, mainly because they fear another Sonic '06 like failure, when instead, that's EXACTLY what happens.
