The full text of the poem "In Flanders Fields"
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

It's a bit sad that so many of us have such war stories in their family's memory. War is always bad. But at the same time it does spark a sense of pride to know that our ancestors fought so bravely for what they believed in and to protect their families.Β
I'm glad you like it, thank you.

Lest We Forget. Very nicely done. One of my uncles fought for Australia in WW1 and 2, and because of him and so many others I do what I can to honour them. This is by far one of the best tributes I've seen for Rememberance Day.

Thank you.
My great grandfather fought in WWI. Thankfully everything turned out all right in the end and my family was able to overcome the difficulties that war always brings. We lived in Veneto, right next to the Dolomites, where many battles were fought, so as you can imagine that war affected us greatly.

You are most welcome. Yeah, I can imaigine it would've been pretty tough for everyone. The great uncle I mentioned made it through both wars, but ended up passing away at the dinner table one morning. I never got to meet him personally, so each ANZAC day and Rememberance Day we have here in Australia, I pay my respects the best way I know how, which is to go to the parades and honour those who died and those who continue to do so. It's the least I can do for them.

That is a nice sentiment, especially for one so young. It is easy for the younger generations to forget: after all, so much time has passed already. It's good to see that there are still people who remember.

Indeed. It's sad to see so many people forget. My 6 year old brother came with me to an ANZAC parade last year, he wanted to come again this year.
