Description
This man is a wonder whose nose is a manifestation of his magnificence. Amongst his numerous produce are shows such as Sherlock, Doctor Who and The League of Gentlemen, in all of which he both writes and acts. I just started reading his Lucifer Box novels starting with "The Vesuvius club" it is a Mark only creation and so far seems to accurately represent his persona. Stephen Fry described the book as, " The most delicious, depraved, inventive, macabre and hilarious literary debut I can think of... More, I want more!" That for me is Mark in a nutshell, he scares me with elegant humor and I like it. More, I want more. The drawing is made with graphite pencils on fine paper, but the scale of the drawing is quite small, I'd say about 15x21 cm. The time spent is more or less the exact amount of time it takes to listen through all five books in The Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy series as read by Stephen Fry and Martin Freeman. I looked it up and that's apparently 27 hours and 42 minutes, that's the summer holidays for you. I didn't really plan on drawing him this thoroughly so the facial proportions are a bit wrong.

Oh yes; the nice thing about hearing Mr. Gatiss reading it is ...well... Mr. Gatiss... I loved the radio series of "On The Town With The League of Gentlemen" as well... I can try to send you the links to listen to BBC 4 extra, listening can be a secondary thing...while doing something else... They did run many of Rik Mayall's radio show work on what would have been his birthday... & I recorded all but one episode of his Bed Time Stories.... I am glad I did...

I am quite familiar with Rik's radio work his bedtime stories are so delightfully weird and intimate, perfect for, well bedtime ... Mark Gatiss reading anything is just a joy his voice is just amazing, even more perfect than the rest of him, saying a lot. I'd love some links . There is a great extra on the League of Gentleman DVD where he reads a piece wearing a Victorian outfit. Mark Gatiss reading Victorian League of Gentlemen stuff with his Victorian voice and Victorian clothes is an amazing experience.

It's what Rik and Ade and originally some others called them selves in the very beginning when they were at uni and did gigs at the Edinburgh fringe. That is where they developed their comedy and it saw the beginnings of the dangerous brothers and Rik's poet character. I listened to some recordings of them at the comic strip and it was surprisingly good and also quite a different style more sketches and so on than character comedy. It's on YouTube, www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ehk2VQ… Strange and surreal stuff ...
