Well, some people have asked me how I make my plushes, so I've tried to make some sort of a tutorial, taking photos of the whole process to try to help.

1. This is some kind of a pattern, although it varies depending on the plush [link]
2.This is how I make the faces: I draw them on Photoshop and print them in that paper for shirts. Then I cut each part separately and iron them to the felt
PLUSH EYE TUTORIAL: [link]
3.To make the head, I'm sure anyone can say a thousand better ways, but this is how I make them: I cut a strip of felt as long as the head and sew it around the face, leaving a hole for the cotton
PLUSH HEAD TUTORIAL : [link]
4-5.I sew both body parts, leaving spaces to put wires and cotton inside. Wires aren't necessary, but the plush comes out more resistant and its pose can be changed
6.I sew the head to the plush. This is the common point for all plushes. There's only making the clothes and details left depending on the plush
7. Making the feet (I don't make them to almost any plush)
I haven't taken photos of how to make the clothes because I totally improvise as I go

I suppose the trick to make plushes is using the parts that won't be seen to put seams and ugly stuff. For instance, I used the parts under the clothings to make knots or whatever I need. You can calso see the undershirt isn't complete, as the other one is sewn on top. If something isn't going to be visible, I don't make it. I didn't take photos of the hair making process, but if you want, I can make another turorial for that with the next plush.

I hope this has helped and please, if you use it to make a plush, send me a link with the photo, I'd love to see how it comes out

I'm sorry but right now I don't have the time for making another tutorial I'll try to explain how to make them

There are a lot of ways for making the clothes, but I often improvise them as I'm making the plush. sometimes I make the legs directly of the color of the pants. The easiest way to make the clothes, is cutting two pieces of cloth with the form of the pants or shirt and sewing the both sides as you do with the plush, leaving the spaces for the arms legs and so. (as real cloth)
It will look much better if you sew them inside-out and turn them when finished, so the sewing won't be seen

I'm really sorry for my bad english ^^" I hope it helps you

Such an awesome Tutorial. I'm super pumped for my plushie now ^^

I was just wondering if you could elaborate on how to make the feet? I'm making a Plushie of the Tenth Doctor from Doctor Who, and a big part of his outfit are his Converse sneakers, so I really want to add them, but I can't really do that without feet. SO maybe you could clarify that for me?

If you could, that'd be great!

Thanks alot for the awesome tutorial!!

How do you go about convincing the feet to tilt back like that? It looks like you're stitching part of the feet to the leg in the picture? I've been trying to get my dolls to do something of the sort but haven't had much success thus far.. ^_^;

Thanks for the pictures and tutorial! I might have to try putting wires in too, it looks fairly straightforward and it must be fun to pose the little guys. ^.^;;

thanks very much for the help. ^_^ So it looks like the stub feet stay vertical, and the two caps are sewn together and then on to the stub to make a foot? ...I'm not quite sure where the open part on the bottom comes in from the lower pictures, but I think I have a notion now. It was kind of you to upload the sketch!

I don't know if I'm going to use this tutorial for what I plan on doing, but it is nice to have something to refer to. Most of the stuff I've ever sewed was made from scratch, but I think its time to expand my horizons a bit and try something else, such as actually following a pattern. If I DO end up using this, I'll be sure to credit you.

Okay I get it know. But do you insert the cotton first before applying the wire in? I have seen works that are done like that but the inside of arms and legs of plush are just cotton only.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nitanita In reply to animebeliever2007 [2009-05-08 12:32:11 +0000 UTC]

you insert first the wire, because it's more difficult to insert it if the cotton is alredy inside. the wires aren't necessary. I use them because the plushes look more stiff with it ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

animebeliever2007 In reply to ??? [2009-05-06 06:20:33 +0000 UTC]

where do you put the wire when you make the arms and legs?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nitanita In reply to animebeliever2007 [2009-05-06 07:01:21 +0000 UTC]

You first sew only half the body, and, through the open half, you insert the wire in the position you see on the photo (one for the arms and one for the legs), as well as the cotton. Then, you sew the other half.
