thanks! unfortunately, the borosilicate glass test tubes i have aren't strong enough for a ring.

won't the diamons wear through the test tube? it's glass right??? or did you fix that?

no. the stones are just sitting inside the test tube. the weight of the stones moving inside isn't going to be nearly enough to cause them to scratch it, let alone wear through.
breaking it is really the only way to get them out.

Break glass in case of diamond emergency! I love it! You are so talented and your ideas are so original!

Hell I'd buy it if only you had a stylish "roll cage" incasing the glass and the diamonds. You could sell this like hotcakes (LMAO!)

noformdesign In reply to Zeal-Aspen [2009-05-12 07:26:21 +0000 UTC]
not a bad idea. it would probably take more time to make the cage than it does to make the entire piece.

yeah I hear you on that.. hmm, how about making the test tube making the steel cover it completely. In return you'd probably use a wide square sanding drum making the cage. I think three stems is a good amount.
There you go, idea thought up and ready for action. you still see the test tube and the diamonds while encased in a roll cage. LOL! also if you want.. you could polish the part of the cage to add the extra "WOW!" to it but, I leave that up to you man.
Good luck ^^

Incredible piece. Modern and very clever. I like the contrast of steel and glass and diamonds. Its also kind of ironic in a way. Because, the glass is sort of "protecting" the diamonds, and yet the diamonds are a far more tough substance than the glass.

thanks. it was something i came up with to solve the problem of having a bunch of mismatched and oddly shaped diamonds.

how much for something like this?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
noformdesign In reply to Z3r0Shin [2007-08-21 06:37:22 +0000 UTC]
the piece in the photo was us$150, but the price really depends on the diamonds.

how about with nothing inside? (can it be filled with anything else post-fabrication?)
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
noformdesign In reply to Z3r0Shin [2007-08-21 17:02:14 +0000 UTC]
without the diamonds, $60 (plus shipping). if you are looking to fill it up with something of your own, i could send the parts disassembled. you would be responsible for sealing it and final assembly.
or, you could send me what you would like it filled with.

how is the whole thing sealed?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
noformdesign In reply to Z3r0Shin [2007-08-22 01:45:20 +0000 UTC]
there is a ball sealing top of the vial and the vial is held in the tube with an adhesive made for metal to glass bonds.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1
noformdesign In reply to Z3r0Shin [2007-08-22 03:10:49 +0000 UTC]
borosilicate glass (same glass as pyrex).

so question? how much do your custom works usually run? everything you make is amazingly beautiful in a different way than average beauty. Im sure you know this already. i was just wondering the running price on your work.

noformdesign In reply to colie666 [2007-02-03 00:21:47 +0000 UTC]
i would say my average price is $250. but it really depends on the materials used.
thanks.

i thought that looked like a test tube... neat neat neat.
it almost looks like somebody was doing an experiment with salt or something and you stole thier tube
