Description
Pure craziness. Because I'm so not swallowing that Lúthien wove her invisibility cloak out of her magically lenghtened hair.Part 14 - or maybe 15 - of Tolkienverse Meets Potterverse.
Lúthien and Huan the Hound, seen escaping a crossover of Hogwarts and Nargothrond here, belong to J.R.R. Tolkien. Harry belongs to J.K. Rowling. None of these are mine. *pout*
For those infamiliar with Tolkienverse -
Lúthien - Elven princess, predecessor of Arwen. Exchanged her immortality for marrying a mortal man.
Huan the Hound - helped Lúthien escape from Nargothrond (fortress/underground city) where she was held captive. Also helped her further.
Lúthien's cloak - wasn't as 'invisible' as the one from Potterverse, more like something that makes you a vague shadow, but that's compensated by the fact that it makes you fall asleep when swished in front of you. Neat.
As to why Lúthien's actually visible in this picture eventhough she has the cloak on... No idea. Perhaps she hasn't donned it properly.

Although the crossover is great , Lúthien's cloak is not an invisibility cloak per se, her cloak causes drowsiness and sleep, and it's that, along with the fact that the darkness of the cloak helps her keep unseen in the dark forests, which helps her escape places and vanquish enemies. But it doesn't make her invisible at all
The cloak's 'dark as night', after all!

I know it's been a long time since you drew this, but I just wanted to add that Luthien is my least favourite character in Sil and her story is the one I like the least. Which is annoying because the professor is one of my favourite writers and Sil my favourite book. I first read Sil about ten years ago when I was a kid, and ten years on.. nope, still think she's as unbearably MarySue as ever. If she could throw down the walls of Angmar or whatever it was, a feat that all the sons and grandsons and great-grandsons of Finwe together couldn't achieve, why didn't they just send Luthien out every time Beleriand had a war.
Actually, most of Luthien's immediate descendants are pretty unbearable. Elwing choosing the Silmarillion over her sons, and turning into a BIRD and just abandoning them, never to see them again.
I just pretend that that chapter/those characters don't exist, which is a bit hard since Tolkien keeps reminding us of them.

Haha, this is funny! Yeah, that part was one of the few parts of the Silmarillion that made me lean back, blink a couple of times, re-read it, then lean back again, blink a couple more times, raise an eyebrow and go "Wait, what?!" Don't get me wrong, I love Tolkien and the Silmarillion is one of my favorite books, if not the favorite, but I mean, she wove an invisability cloak out of her HAIR? Can she get more Mary-Sueish? And, for some reason, while reading that part, the only thought inside my mind was "Wow, imagine the amount of grime in there! You could probably confortably house a whole village of mice between those knots!" Yeah, I'm a Luthien hater...

@ "Can she get more Mary-Sueish?"
She can. The part where she starts flying and Morgoth himself desires her, that just makes me go 'ugh' every time I chance upon it. Sounds like the one of the biggest Mary Sues out there. Don't know what Tolkien was thinking writing this piece - I mean, I know Lúthien's mom was a Maia, but this part is just absurd. The entire story of B and L is my least favourite part of the Silm., mainly because it's so sappy and glorified when all they fought for was each other. Not impressed.

It's said that Tolkien actually based Luthien off his wife... which would explain an awful lot.

Ugh, god, I'm with you there! It took me a week to get through Beren and Luthien. As if reading the Silm. isn't enough like talking to Stephen Hawking ( it's awesome, but after 10 minutes, your brain gets tired) I had to indure about 20 pages of utter mushyness! Honestly, Beren+ Luthien = A S.T.U.P.I.D-ass love story! (I would have stayed with Celegorm if I were her. He wasn't called The Fair for nothing! ) "Beren did this... Luthien did that...Beren is so brave, Luthien is so hot, Beren does stupid things, Luthien does stupid things, Beren and Luthien are so in lovey-love, Luthien is so powerfull, Luthien is so beautiful, Beren gets hurt, Luthien cries rivers, Beren gets well, Luthien does more stupid things, all is well, the end." In a nutshell. Safe to say that I spent the whole time wishing to god "Oh, just DIE already, will you!" I mean, know that Luthien was inpired on Tolkien's wife and all of that, but he created the world's first Mary-Sue. And that business with Morgoth and the belly dance or whatever, and the flying with her hair and all of that crap...Not Tolkien's highest point.

Indeed. Mary-Sues travel across fandoms, so why not Lúthien, who has some of their traits. Thanks!

Yeah, that part of the Silm. always seemed a bit far-fetched to me, though I love the book otherwise.

I thought at first the elven version will be the cloaks of Lorien, but Luthien's is also great idea. Mary Sue.

Luthien strikes you as having a strong Mary-Sueish streak? Then that makes two of us, yay. JRRT might have found her wonderful, but I must say that if someone submitted a fic containing some flying chick with an enchanting voice and a handful of appearance-changing spells at hand, I'd return it for reworking. She just seems to me too unreal to be enjoyable.
Thanks for the comment and the fave, they're appreciated!

Oh yes. Come on, Namo moved to tears, then letting them both get back to life? Yeah, right. The sad thing is that Tolkien wished his marriage would have been like Beren&Luthien's relationship, and considering the fact that both Luthien and Edith had to give up many things in their lives (and beyond, for Luthien), I don't find it a very good thing to wish for, or a good basis to relationship.
You're welcome, as usual! (:

Haha, great! Love Huan, he looks so fluffy!
These little panels/comics are genius. There's so many little similarities between the two series; both Sauron and Voldy are referred to as 'the Dark Lord', and I've always imagined the dementors closely related to the Nazgul. Maybe they're cousins.

Oh, thought of one more. The locket and the Ring. Both have a negative effect on the wearer, Hermione/Sam tell Harry/Frodo to take it off, and both must be destroyed.

LOL, that's a real possibility - I don't know how much I'd stick around if 'progressing' from a batty Trelawney to an angsty teen.
Thanks!

Perfect job in capturing the angsty!Harry, if I may say so. Looks great.
Too right you are; the lengthened hair isn't very plausible, were we to analyze the truth behind the legend. (nd if it is true, why would Melian have taught her daughter to lenghten her hair..?)

Thank you!
In my mind's eye, 'angsty' is a kind of standard setting for HP, so I'm glad others seem to perceive him the same way.
Exactly! I like Maiarin 'magic' when it's useful (Gandalf doing the disarming/lightning stuff), but I'm not a fan of enchanting singing (with the exception of Finrod) and hair growing and all that fancy girly stuff that Lúthien specializes in. The flying in the air before Morgoth is just pure crack in my mind's eye; I'll probably never understand why JRRT would fancy throwing in something that sounds so utterly over-the-top.

From book two and forward he's been angsty, especially in OOtP.
Finrod's enchanting singing = win. . It's nice that even male characters use singing as a weapon and tool.
Melian probably just didn't want her daughter to learn more "dangerous" magic as no one expected her to have to use such. Because Melian sure could do that useful magic herself (the Girdle of Doriath, even though she kept that as a secret from Luthien.

Ah, yes, but Melian had a gift of foresight, so she must have at least suspected so. IDK, changing into a bat and a werewolf doesn't exactly sound like playful magic...
Well, let's say there's a lot of what I find far-fetched in that tale. Stands no chance against the splendour of the Oath, LOL.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the bat disguise... Though, I guess I've always thought of that as just them wearing the fur in some sort of clothing - not really a transformation.

I see. I read the hides as a metaphor; it does say that Beren howled and that Luthien turned into a batlike creature that flew, after all - but to each their own.

Fanfics are a good place to start with Potterverse, although my very first encounter was accidentally opening book 6 right in the middle of a murder scene- kind of sucks one in.
