Description
Chirin, from Chirin No Suzu (Or Ringing Bell, in English). It's a 70's short anime, one of the only Japanese 'shock' films aimed at children, the dark content of which later meant its removal from American shelves, as it had been released as a G rated film without being properly reviewed.It's actually an awesome little story, a cautionary tale about the consequences of pursuing revenge and hatred.
Reffed his pose from a scene where he falls over on his back, but adjusted it to make sure his bell was showing and gave him a totally different expression. Pretty happy with the highlights and shading in this :3

From what little I know about this movie, it's also about conformity which would go over better with Japanese audiences than American ones.

It was almost unbearable for me to watch the ending, as it looks like Chirin has regret his actions and what he had become. It just felt so unfair for it to end like that without a simple explanation of what really happened to Chirin after that.

Poor Chirin... The scene where he mourns his mom after she sacrificed her life to save him from the wolf was painful to watch.

Haha thank you! And it's well worth a watch. It's out of print, so I can't imagine the creators would mind me saying it's on youtube in five parts - both the English dub and the Japanese sub. I personally recommend the Japanese sub - it's truer to the original apparently, because the English version had extra sentences explaining things and extra 'cuter' sounds.
I'm actually working on another silly Chirin picture related to the fact of it's American removal, it's just going really slowly -_-
