I had some vague guidelines for this creature's design: big, mammalian, long haired, four horns.
Started out with a few some quick design studies – the mammalian world is vast and when you have four horns you can go crazy on where to place them. I used a flat, rectangular, slightly texturized brush. This kind of brush is perfect for loose sketches and value studies: it doesn't allow to waste time on neatness and helps jotting down spontaneous ideas, with a nice abundance of out of control sketchiness - great for happy accidents to occur.
An army of well-polished creature silhouettes for the same designing process is coming up later :3

I'm always using round brushes, so proobably should give some square/rectangular ones a try sometime, haha.

Try them, they're awesome. Stuff tends to look loose but good/painterly at the same time - I'm not sure how to explain that, you just have to see it for yourself
