Description
Project: AntikaA flying creature designed for airborne racing! Six limbs are a challenge. Does it look believable? The concepts on the left should help understand its wings and limbs anatomy.
I left out its right Great Wing so you can take a good look at its sexy body. This is more like a softened cel shading than a regular painting - time costraints!

regular painting is hard! Now im only starting to find that out the hard way X"D
killer linework as usual. You have a way with anatomy that'll make biologists and motorcycle designers green with envy )
im thinking the red membrane of the middle limb should go up a little more, so instead of coming out of its ribs area, it comes out of its lateral line (that shiny specular line you've drawn there connecting the middle and hind limbs)
loving how soft it looks. It's almost as if of amphibian texture, which is nice! Your stuff is always so.. liquid
Artstation!! The land of the big and strong :"D

Thank you so much! "Liquid"? Sounds lovely. It makes me proud
And about the membrane, I definitely agree - it would look better up here. The positioning looks awkward nowΒ that I look at it with fresh eyes. I wonder how it would interact with the bigger membrane though, which is meant to come out of that point too (I took the big wing out on the illustration, it's barely visible because I made it sort of transparent). This thing would have aerodynamic problems either way ahah
Artstation. Β :"D Β indeed. I found out it's actually full of amateur stuff, but they make a good job at picking the best pieces so that you look at the home and instantly feel bad about yourself. I hope I'll get to be there some day :'D

OHH good point, i forgot that you intentionally left out the right dominant wing; yea, the dominant wings' membranes would definitely clash with the lesser wings' membranes.. and maybe even with the lesser wings' deltoids o.o
aerodynamism..hmmm. I think one option could be to have the dominant arm and lesser arm spare the same membrane, but this would turn the creature into a glider rather than a multi-winged flyer, and pple generally think of gliders as slow cruisers and multi-winged flyers as more agile and highly-maneuverable, which is what i suspect you're going for.
HAHAHA so true abt artstation making me feel bad about myself (bad is an understatement tho), when i look at artstation sometimes i go "wtf is this! and that! and that! What! Are dese pple hired already? If they aren't hired yet what chance have we got!?"
Artstation does serve its point tho: to act as a powerful wake-up call to arms. That's the standard we need to get to, and beat!Β
And then sometimes i think about all the furry and fetish art on dA and i'm like, well, never has the divide between the casual and competitive scene been more apparent
It almost feels to me that the dA standard is sth we need to graduate from, before throwing our works out there to the lions
so much to think about......! why is every day so overwhelming

Exactly! Well, I guess you'd need huge pecs and an upper limb structure that isn't quadrupede-like if you're going for powered flight. But I didn't want to sacrifice the kind of look I had in mind too much - I have seen thousands of creatures in sci-fi that could never fly and yet look compelling enough not to break suspension of disbelief. That's what I've tried to achieve xD
Ahah I love talking about this sort of things! What's your opinion on this? Do you tend to favor functionality or aesthetics?Β

Ahaahah same reaction man. I'm sure those people have no problem finding a job - hell, even I get inquiries now and then so I can only imagine what their inbox looks like.Β
Totally agree! I'm always tempted to avoid being exposed to all that insanely good stuff, but it's such a great reminder that those people have been putting in the hours and so should I.

You're right; it's sexy. Love the sleekness of the feline that you lent this creature.
Because of the shapes of the overall design, I can definitely imagine how aerodynamic
it could be. Totally a winner. Cheers!

Very nice~
Hopefully soon I'll be sliding into experimenting with creature design too. Just gotta manage the time lately, haha.
