quite the interesting juxtaposition, two very primal urges with a societal backdrop. Not the best quality image, but I don't think it needed to be. The concept is there, and it is perfectly timed. Congrats on the DD, it is well deserved.

I hardly comment but this photo is really interesting.

At first I thought this one didn't deserve a DD. It was not eye-catching nor breathtaking, like other DDs.ย

But when I saw all the comments, I went back to the picture again.

It can be interpreted in many ways:

ๅ”ฏๆœ‰็พŽ้ฃŸไธŽ็ˆฑไธๅฏ่พœ่ดŸ๏ผŒfood is the best boyfriend just as *n3cr0fear said in page 2.

็œŸ ๅฑŒไธๅ’Œ้ซ˜ๅฏŒๅธ…็š„ๅทฎ่ท as Timoyan mentioned.

her hand is in a naughty place asย *Allendra3 said.

What camera did you use to take this? It's horribly grainy and a lot of detail is lost. It's also crooked.

The rule of thirds is there, so it's got that going for it.

Congrats on the DD.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

noperson In reply to TheBrassGlass [2013-08-05 11:36:54 +0000 UTC]

I used an old amateur dslr.
It was 11pm;
It was raining;
The sky was completely overcast;
The lights from the Plaรงa d'Espanya in Barcelona, where it was taken, were rather 'dim';
The iso was set to 800 (and although it's possible to kick it up to 1600 - then it gets a lot grainier, so I never use it);
At f/4 and 1/30s I was quite happy with what I got

As for the crookedness - well, that's not a big problem here
The rule of thirds? - I don't think about that
Thank You for seeing and appreciating it!

I don't understand why people are bein' rude and sayin' this doesn't "deserve" a DD just cause it "looks random" and/or they don't agree with it. It's not killin' anyone that it's a DD, so why harm you?

I like this, so congrats. It's an everyday event I ignore 'cause it doesn't matter to me. It's cool.

Resolution could use a bit more work in the future. Only 'cause I thought she (kissin') was doing' a bit more lovin' than what was publically allowed.

I like it... I think it shows some everyday life... I enjoy how something as casual as this than seeing another girl turned into a sexy alien which isn't bad but I like to see new and different things and something so real and down to earth as a simple pic like this now is starting to seem different for a DD but really I think its great an well deserved... it just all seems so casual like an everyday life thin in some building in a city XDDD

So many people are upset and complaining about how this photo doesn't "deserve" to be a DD. 1). It's not like the artist was trying to get a DDย  2). Going off of that, there are several thousand artists who post numerous images on this website, so the chance of being selected is slim to none. 3) The people who select DDs seem to choose pictures they like, regardless of whether they are professional quality or not. Everyone is treating the moderators like judges who should give publicity to the most professional artists on here, when really it looks like something they do for fun and to possibly give under-credited artists a little limelight. Let people have their 15 minutes of fame; it can really make their day. If they don't have manyย  Sounds like a lot of people are jealous on here, or insulted because *they* believe others are more deserving. It's nice to help progressing artists get noticed. Professionals will always have a growing fan-base, plus people people who will look at their art and promote it, so some people need to stop being so whiny. No one gave a true critique (aka, constructive criticism) in the comments section of this photo; they complained about everything that was wrong with it, but offered no suggestions for how the artist could improve the picture and any techniques they could use to go about doing so. Critiques are fine, but don't purely criticize. It leaves the artist stranded and will not make them a better artist. Don't write the artist off so quickly either, especially if, in this case, photography isn't your medium.

Onto the actual picture. I thought it was very "deserving" of a DD. If it's candid, as in no special equipment on hand to prepare for something like this, then I think the quality adds to the picture more. Perfection isn't everything. Some of the stuff is hard to make out, like the girl's hands by the guy's pockets and the woman's black outfit against her shadow on the dark wall. The picture could be a little clearer, however, it adds to the moment. It's sincere. Plus the type of quality photographs we have today did not exist in say the 80s or 90s, but no one is criticizing their quality. Sure, that was decades ago, but it's not like we revamp the original picture to make it look modern. My point is that if this was done with a cheap camera, let it be what it is. The feelings are still there and the intentions are honest. I honestly find some of the DDs to be very plain, but this one looks very thought-out. It's one thing to plan a picture, but it's a complete other to capture a unique moment that could fade within a few seconds. No one else was there to capture this moment except the artist. The artist deserves recognition for knowing to turn this moment into street art. We'd never get to see it if they didn't make that judgment call. Give the artist more credit.

You had me until "the type of quality photographs we have today did not exist in say the 80s or 90s".

Sorry, people have been taking quality photographs since the 1800s, with equipment a thousand times more primitive than what we have today.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Corinthian134 In reply to TheBrassGlass [2013-08-05 09:54:55 +0000 UTC]

Please don't think I was dismissing photos from the 1800s. I know there are plenty of amazing and quality photos from the 1800s. I did not limit my opinion to the 80s and 90s, only using those time periods as examples because they are what the quality of this image reminded me of. Does this deviation resemble something out of the 1800s to you, when not even color photos or easily portable cameras were around? I only mentioned those times for the sake of relatability, to better illustrate my point, not to diss any give time period.
