Actually, what you can do is work on RGB, then when you're done, make a copy and switch to CMYK. Open them side by side, [yea, the colors will be crazy] then adjust the CMYK with curves and you'll see it gets pretty close to RGB and it prints right. ^__^
ps. Love your gallery!

What I mean is, clients normally have a colour guide you HAVE to follow. Even if you get the colours spot on in rgb, they will still change when you change to cmyk.
99% of my work has been for kids books atc, and I've always worked in cmyk because of this.
Even if you do use the right colours, when you use airbrushing in a pic for eg. You can lose some colours in the grad, adn will become a kind of pixelated looking grad too. Mainly with darks.
The way I've always worked is, cmyk for print, rgb for digital. Can't go wrong that way

I see what you mean. Spot coloring and all that. It would save time in client based work [at least very strict and demanding and controlling clients lol] I think when it comes to personal work and non strict clients I think it's easier.
Concerning the pixelation in the gradients, [which does happen, you're absolutely right on that] as long as you work 300dpi or higher it's literally undetectable by the human eye once it prints, so it's not a big deal.
Truth is, if I had clients like yours, I'd do the same as you. ^__^

ok
I do have a question (since I'm a ps noob ;__ about changes to the resolution while painting. If I do the whole vexel pic on 72dpi and at the last stages I change the res of the .psd file to 300dpi - will it still be sharp & really good quality?

Norke In reply to faust-sayuri [2009-06-07 13:17:28 +0000 UTC]
It depends. If you make it on 5000x5000 on 72dpi... and then you change it to 5000x5000 on 300dpi, it will be sharp. If you change the pixels, then not

and not the dpi resolution <3
