Description
This is a special person in my life. His favorite color is green. His favorite sport is soccer, and his favorite music is found on the Guitar Hero games. Like a lot of kids, he goes to school, and his favorite subject is reading. He loves swimming, computer games, and eating. He likes to dress up as Spider Man for Halloween, and wishes he could be Spider Man in real life. He has his own likes, dislikes, talents, and quirks. He breathes air, his heart beats, his mind thinks, and he has feelings. Oh yeah, by the way, he has autism, but really heβs just another human like you and me, and loves to be treated as one."If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away." - Henry David Thoreau
Faves, features, comments, and watches are always welcome and extremely appreciated. Thank you for any support in advance (although I will try to thank you personally, sometimes life gets in the way)! If you use this picture, please send a link!
Update: To answer a frequent question I'm seeing: Yes, I am sharing with him his feedback, and no, he didn't technically write the text himself, but he did to the best of his ability, so he deserves the credit. In my opinion, yes he wrote it and deserves the credit because he did his very best and that's all anyone can do.

oh and have you read evil genius and genius squad by cathrine jinks? i know the titles are somewhat offputting but i love them. they are some of the few books in which a main character is disabled. the main's best friend has cerebral palsy AND a iq of over 200, proving you can't judge anyone on stariotypes

life would be boring if we were all the same... and ALL people are people! some people seem to have problems with such a simple concept. its obvious, we call them people because they ARE people. and all people have feelings and all people desirve respect (yes i know my spelling is bad sorry) people have talents and weaknesses... i am proven to have two very unique characteristics. i have a near genius iq (off by a few points) and i am somewhat dislecsic. (i can read really well but handwriting and spelling are difficult). most people don't believe that a person with such a high iq could have problems with something as simple as spelling. i think that my thought processes are just different. i believe your brother may prove himself extremly taltented at something (if he hasn't already) which most people woundn't understand. tell your brother not to listen to anyone who says "he's not good enough" because a genius (nearly) says he IS worth it and he is an amazing person in his own way. i appoligise for this message being so long, but i know what its like to be treated badly because of thinking diffrently.

This is a brilliant photo theres something about this which really captures his charm. An excellent way of showing that autistic people do indeed have a personality of their own. So pleased to see this got a DD because it is most deffinatly a piece everyone should see. My younger sister is autistic, so for me this piece is really quite touching.

It's a disorder, many autistic people can't communicate well or communicate in a different way.
I love the Autistic at my school. They're some of the kindest, gentle hearted kids there.
It's a real shame that the others make fun of them for their disability. It's not right.

What does it do specifically? How does it mess with their communication skills?

Nobody really knows how it messes with communication and whatnot, but as a person with a slight form, I can tell you that sometimes, when I want to introduce myself or summat, my brain gets into a block, kind of like a stuck bike chain.
I'm not entirely sure how it feels to have it more severely, as I've never had to go through it myself and I haven't asked anyone else yet. :v

I AM VERY SHOCKED.
THIS REALLY IS A PIECE OF ART, AND I LIKE IT VERY MUCH, AT LEAST FOR THE MOMENT. I SAW THIS PICTURE ON MY GIRLFRIEND`S JOURNAL AND IT REALLY KICKED ME A BIT. IT`S STUNNING. THE IDEEA, THE COLORS, YOUR LITTLE BROTHER, EVERYTHING. I WISH HIM AND YOU ALL THE BEST AND TAKE CARE OF HIM BECAUSE HE DESERVES. YOU`RE A GREAT PERSON THAT CARES VERY MUCH FOR HER BROTHER. I DIDN`T KNEW HOW TO START, I DIDN`T HAVE A PAPER PREPARED, I`M JUST TELLING NOW WHAT I`M FEELING AT THE MOMENT. I`M NEW TO PHOTOGRAPHY AND I DON`T HAVE A CERTAIN STYLE AND I CANNOT CRITIQUE PHOTOS (FOR NOW AT LEAST) BUT THERE AREN`T SO MANY PHOTOS THAT I LIKE. IT`S A VERY RARE THING WHEN A PHOTO KICKS ME AND MAKES ME COMMENT, SCREAM, LAUGH, CRY AND SO ON. THIS PHOTOGRAPHY`S MESSAGE IS VERY INTENSE. I JUST LOVE IT. I REALLY DON`T KNOW WHAT MORE TO SAY. GREAT, JUST GREAT. CONGRATULATIONS FOR THE WORK!
PS: I WANTED TO WRITE WITH CAPITALS.

My brother is autistic too. Thank you for putting this out there; I hate the idea of people with disabilities being defined by them by others, though in most cases that is inevitably what happens =/ People need to realise that children (and adults) with autism are just like anyone else, just special (not different... that sounds too close to labelling).

I love this, I can relate to this, My nephew is autistic and life definitely isn't easy for him.
He is 7 years old and it's hard for him to keep up in school, he gets held back a grade here and there and as a result it is hard for him to make and keep friends.
His best friends are his grandpa and I.
He comes over all the time and plays video games and just escapes from his normal routine, the sadness he expresses when he cannot come over is heart breaking.
But he is really starting to learn, he is speaking much better and taking an interest in many more things.
What I want to see, more than anything, is him living like any other 7 year old, it's his time to enjoy life, no matter what tries to hold him back.

that's an extremly good picture, and the idea is originaly.
it's good you care about everyone, especilly your brother who got this disabilty.sometimes, people become so mean, they care only by themselves ,they want everyting, never enough and forget about the others, how the human realtionships and friendships are all we should [have] carr[ed] about. congrats.

I remember once when me and my friends decided to volunteer at an Autism Childcare Center. Each one of us took care of one child for the day. We played with them, did art with them, read to them, as you would with normal kids...
And I can never forget the sweet little boy who hugged me and thank me for the day.. He really appreciated it and liked me irregardless of the short amount of time I've spent taking care of him.

What a beautiful, lovely, gentle and welcoming face your brother has. This has left me with a bit of a lump in my throat. I teach at a secondary school and a small number of the students have learning difficulties which means they think and communicate in a slightly different way from the majority of the students. It makes me very sad when people make assumptions about them based on physical or vocal perceptions. They are such fun students to spend time with and a pleasure to teach.
Your brother looks like a lovely boy and clearly has a very loving sister.
I think this is a beautiful image and raises an equally sincere statement.
Really very touching indeed. Thank you for sharing it with us x
