Description This is a special person in my life. His favorite color is green. His favorite sport is soccer, and his favorite music is found on the Guitar Hero games. Like a lot of kids, he goes to school, and his favorite subject is reading. He loves swimming, computer games, and eating. He likes to dress up as Spider Man for Halloween, and wishes he could be Spider Man in real life. He has his own likes, dislikes, talents, and quirks. He breathes air, his heart beats, his mind thinks, and he has feelings. Oh yeah, by the way, he has autism, but really he’s just another human like you and me, and loves to be treated as one.

"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away." - Henry David Thoreau

Faves, features, comments, and watches are always welcome and extremely appreciated. Thank you for any support in advance (although I will try to thank you personally, sometimes life gets in the way)! If you use this picture, please send a link!

Update: To answer a frequent question I'm seeing: Yes, I am sharing with him his feedback, and no, he didn't technically write the text himself, but he did to the best of his ability, so he deserves the credit. In my opinion, yes he wrote it and deserves the credit because he did his very best and that's all anyone can do.

I love it. One of my best friends has autism. His name is Brody, and he wants to tell your brother, "Hi, I love you."

I adore Brody. And (even if I don't know him) your brother.

Let him know that he can still lead a full life regarless of the condition. He's not alone: I have schizophrenia but am able to hold a job, have an apartment and I have lots of hobbies, like making my own web comic.
I wrote about my condition in my journal (and received a lot of support from others DA with mental illnesses) at: [link]

as i see it, they are diffrent.
they want to be normal, and try their best to. when we always are trying to be diffrent from everyone else, but end up following others.

though, i may be diffrent from others. i treat them as i treat everyone, and do not pity them, just as i wouldn't pity anyone else.
but for some reason, ppl say "treat them like you treat anyone" but still pity them if they can't do something a normal person can.

I didn't know his sister had super powers too?!?! Here I was thinking that HE was the one actually taking the photos, and now I find out it's his SISTER? Photo = Amazing

It's not often you can catch Spidey out of his super suit. Way to go!

When I read your author's notes and saw the picture I actually got a little teary-eyed. Your brother is such a powerful inspiration for anyone who sees the picture, and I'm so glad that you and him are close. Thank you so much for sharing this picture with us.

I knew a little boy with autism once and although I was not related to him I can say with confidence that he has to be one of the most influential people in my life. Although I didn't see him often nor did I know how others treated him, he always had a bright smile on his face and was optimistic about everything and anything. He was so ambitious and he actually comforted me one day when I started crying! Hahaha.

Thanks again for this picture.

I've written like 3 essays trying to think of the best encouragement to give you for this but in the end they all seem wrong/fake/bad. So I just want to flat out say this is THE perfect message not "a" perfect message just flat out that's it! "I have an illness, so what" if everyone were like you guys everything would be better.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. There's nothing else to say for this.

It hurts me so much when someone with disabilities is taunted, but when you look at their point of view, you realise maybe they don't care, maybe they know they are amazing, unique. They know that cruel words won't hurt them. And you wish everyone felt this way.

My sister has Autism also. I live with my sister and my grandma. After my grandpa Bob passed away I had to take over watching and playing with myu sister we formed a bond just as my grandpa and my sister (18) had. I know how some people look down on the mentally disabled as retarded. It's quite sad actually. Those people who think like that will never know how smart and fun handicapped children are. Sure we all have our ups and downs. but that doesn't make them any different from the normal people who people who say they are normal.

Your photo speaks to me in so many different ways ^^ It says no matter who you are or what mental Illness you have we are all still human. I work with children at a catholic school they may not all have mental problems, But as Horton says "a persons a person no matter how small" heres how I think of people " A humans a human no matter how different" no matter if your big or small, black or white, America or Asian we are all human and God's children.

My aunt Lisa helps the handicapped with art threapy. I hope one day to give back to my community in the same way. I love children and have the heart of a child myself. I would also love to help you anyways I can. Just tell me how i can help...

I just want it on record that not all autistic kids have visable retardation. I look quite normal and I'm diagnosed autistic, albeit low level comapred to these high enders whos struggle with just about everything. I don't get people, as high enders struggle with everything, their own emotions, sudden changes, new people, familiar people.

Autism isn't something we can address through knowledge, it needs to be done at the genetic level, if we can get past the philosopohical debate that is, should we play god. Considering Hawkings one of the brightest minds of our time is pretty much disabled beyond what most would consider liveable (in terms of quality of life). The terrible problem for me, is that if I believe in genetic selection/ removal of traits that lead to autism, then I remove who I am, essentially murdering my own personality for this different person I could be. This really is work started by Hitlers search for the Aryian race.
