Description
EDIT: Although I have drawn an example with a breast simply protruding from the chest, this is not the case in reality. That example is just to illustrate the fact that the breasts are actually surprisingly far from collarbones.EDIT 2: Remember that this is not "the only and right" way of drawing breasts. This is how I draw them, and you may agree or disagree with me as you please
I'm back with part 2. It took pretty long to compile, and it's not comprehensive, but I believe it has some good points there and there. Note that these are my own observations and I'm not unbiased artist. I have my preferences that I follow to make appealing drawings.
In anime and manga, breasts aren't drawn too strictly according to the physics. The breasts tend to be placed higher, near the collarbones, because it makes them look young and perky. Drooping hardly ever takes place. In some hentai, breasts tend to look more realistic, but usually they are rather monstrous physics-defying lumps of perfect shapes. Also, girls without bras don't seem to be bothered about their breasts jiggling crazily around. In reality, what I have heard, breasts are quite a nuisance, with and without bras.
Anyway, I drew my own view of breast. Note, that these apply on breasts that are hanging free. Bras and clothing in general are factors that affect the shape of the breasts a lot. This is probably why people think breasts always look nearly perfect spheres, even without supportive piece of clothing. This is, of course, not the case. I hate anime figures with detachable clothing parts, as the breast don't fall like they should. Despite having six Revoltech Queen's Blade action figures with such feature, I bought them due to their excellent articulation, not for this obnoxious feature.
Here I wanted to emphasize the rib cage. As it's where the breasts are anchored, it's the most significant "object" that affect the shape, size and position of the breasts. Note that, the larger the breasts are, the more support they need to keep the shape. So a girl with small body can't offer as much supportive area for the breasts to anchor to like women with larger rib cage. Thus small girls tend to have smaller breasts and if they do have large breasts, they look quite different from those of bigger women.
Also pay extra attention to the understanding the 3D. Perspective is such a pain, but in order to draw anything, it's a must have skill. In order to draw the breasts, you need to understand where the beholder is looking at it, how the body is related to it etc.
Breasts also come in various shapes. However, I have only drawn shapes that I find attractive. That said, the breasts don't always follow the dynamics too strictly, especially the larger breasts. This is why I don't usually want to draw extra large breasts, as the dynamics in them are often too ridiculous
This is also why I drew "girly", "lady-like" and "motherly" body builds as a reference. It's quite natural that younger women have smaller breasts and body compared to older women due to growth. These are only archetypes though, what's drawn here are about women in general point of view.
And finally, as an apology, I'm sorry for illustrating under-aged looking girls in reference part. For the sake of practice, I wanted to try drawing different body builds. I want to make clear that I have no interests in kids. Also, I apologize for illustrating obaa-san. Just like with kids, I have no interests in very old women. Everything is for the sake of art and demonstrating the things the way they are. Don't expect to see more of these two extremes from me here on dA.
Hope you like!

Sounds like you're afraid what other people might think about you if you draw larger breasts. Who cares? Being perverted isn't bad at all as long asΒ it won't hurt other people andΒ you won't let it take control of your life. IΒ wouldn't be this good if I wasn't a little perverted .
Not to say you absolutely need to draw larger breasts, smaller breasts are equally fascinating. Draw whatever you want to draw and don't let other people limit yourself. You don't need to show everything if you feel uncomfortable you know.

Hmm... boobs really don't connect at the chest bone. In a standing position, there will be space between them unless there was some porn-class surgery involved. Otherwise, nice.Β

You don't have to apologize for drawing small boobs, it's sooooooo hard to find a tutorial with small boobs.
I want to draw myself, and every time I fuck up with my boobs because I have a hard time drawing convincing small ones.Β
As an adult, it's really frustrating my boob type is only associated with children. But good tutorial art wise!!
I will still use it since I have found nothing on DA that helps me draw small boobs, even though it's kinda insulting.

Um hello!
I was wondering if you could critique on my lineart for a bit?
Its my first time to draw full fabric clothing like sweaters, scarfs, dresses.
The breast part is still getting to me...
It suppose to look like my avatar from another site.
Like how the sweater should cover if its tucked in while?
Should it less loose or tight enough to expose it?
Also I could tell when arms are this close it suppose to make it look squished (or unless she is wearing a bra which is the case to keep its shape?)
I just do not know how to make it look squished
doodleknots.deviantart.com/artβ¦
again sorry to bother you with this.

Hey, mind if I reply ?
Using previous tutorial on breasts fav.me/d67ko47 make them soft and squishy. Bra usually just lifts them up, sometimes squishes them to the center. If you hold arms close, the arms will 'overpower' bra and change breast shape, the breasts will be higher and closer together. As to how exactly draw two spheres closer together, I can't help you there, I struggle with spheres myself
If sweater is tucked in the fabric should stretch and give you visible straight lines, try looking at this for reference fav.me/d17sdyt
In your art I don't see it as a sweater, more like something made from latex, usually lose cloth don't touch the bottom of the breasts, again refer to previous link.
Hope this helps ^_^

Something like this I did (I recently finished this yesterday and to clarify she is supposed to be sitting in grass but don't know how to paint grass yet D: )
Though I think I may have over did it O.O;;...
I was looking at a reference for dresses that were laying on the grass when worn.
As for the breast part, I sort of learn that breasts will sink to the side or just sink down. (Her breasts this time are not huge size D xD)
It's still undone since I need to add the pearls on the dress and the strap on the dress that goes on the shoulders...
I'm trying to avoid over doing it...
Once I sort of get it, it becomes harder to make different sizes D:

CyropsArt In reply to DoodleKnots [2016-01-06 13:28:35 +0000 UTC]
The grass is very very soft so there should be no deformation to the dress, unless the dress is super light but then it has to be sort of see through a little or a lot.
There's plenty of reference, just google for 'wedding dress grass' in image section
Don't forget that depending if fabric is soft gravity will pull it down (if she is laying on the ground) therefor her legs will be somewhat pronounced a little more than standing up, at least the general shape.
Follow newest tutorial fav.me/d9mc0ru you seem to be focused on step 8, and skipped 6, face, feet and fingers anatomy is off.
As for drawing grass, you can just use a brush for that, depending on what software you use.

Personally, being given explanation of how things work is a lot more usefull than being told how to do them. Every artist has his own aproach and different ways of drawing things.
π: 0 β©: 0
Nsio In reply to EnpressAlkaid1 [2015-08-27 18:30:55 +0000 UTC]
I find there isn't really point telling how to exactly draw them, because that would require explaining everything about making art and how I perceive/understand the world. Other tutorials will cover those things. This tutorial assumes that the person already knows how to draw in general level and then that person only needs to apply these ideas to draw breasts. There are obviously many ways to draw boobs, both right and wrong, and my drawings cannot be considered right in any circumstances. My way of drawing breasts gets the job done, but not necessarily exactly right. However, understanding how breasts work is fundamental thing that anyone can figure out and then apply it on their chosen way of drawing. Bringing attention to those fundamentals rather than showing how to do things is my primary focus on my tutorials, thus "Understanding the Dynamics" on the title.
I myself find that examples about common mistakes or things that are generally considered "terrible and wrong" are especially useful, especially for beginners who want to avoid the most common pitfalls. Of course, I have my own views what I consider good and bad, but that aside, "style" is just an excuse. Although if one absolutely wants to draw breasts in certain way, then sure, no problem.Β It's just that there might be ways to convey the message even better, even if the results weren't that much closer to being exactly right.Β I, for one, don't hesitate to change my ways if I find better ways to achieve more right (or more justified) look (which I have already done several times after posting this tutorial).Β If things lookΒ justified,Β intentional and most importantly pleasant to look at, then style argument is valid and "wrong" becomes "right". A rigid mind doesn't have room for potential improvements.

I suggest that you google for corset and have a look what it has to deliver. There are a lot of references to look at. Not only you need to study how it supports breasts, but also how it wraps around them. That wrapping has strong impact on perceived depth and volume.
On your drawing, her right breast seems flat because the frills on the corset aren't following the round shape. On top of that, the breast line and corset are connected at the armpit so that it's visually perceived as a separate flat plane rather than as a rounded surface connected on the rib cage.

To be fair, superlarge breasts can be done well within a certain limit if you grasp the shape and physics of regular large and proportion the body frame around them. For example, a female character that has a huge bust but is overall built/thick will work, but huge boobs and butt attached to a thin, small torso will just look awkward.
It's all about understanding they're a body part like any other, and balancing everything accordingly. Even if it's not realistic, a design will look good if there's a general sense of harmony to it.

To be honest, the implied sexual assault in the girl-with-different-breast-size's replic is WAY WORSE than anything regarding the age of the girls. Also, there is nothing inherently sexual in naked female body (as a girl will confidently tell you), so there is nothing weird in the range of body types you drew except for
1) the implied sexual assault I already mentioned (EWWWWWWW)
2) your comments (????)
3) the fact they are all actually, uh, the same body type. Like, you know, fat and muscles exist not only in one frozen state all anime artists for some reason draw them in! Girls can actually have GASP DIFFERENT BODY SHAPES.
I came here for the perspective turtorial, and I really hope this is the only one that will make me wish I'd never come here. Because this is EWWWWW

women are objects on deviantart. They have no character, they're all about sex and their bodies are all that people here care about. Β
Oh, not only that,
Male nipples are acceptable and female nipples are not. You can show breasts, objectify & sexualize women, but if you show their nipples on a non sexualized piece of art... well now, that's going too far!Β
